Paderborn and Wolfsburg square off in what will be a crucial game for both sides as the Bundesliga season is closing in to an end.
Paderborn is in real trouble after all relegation rivals took point or points on Saturday. The hosts dropped to the second to last place and need to get something from this game in order to climb over the relegation zone, otherwise things will look really bleak for them in the last two rounds. The hosts are on the back of a huge 2-1 win at Freiburg, so it could be a tough task for them to pull off two great results in a row – but there aren’t any other options for Paderborn.
I expected Wolfsburg’s emphatic win in the Cup to get them back to winning ways in the Bundesliga, but I was shocked when the Wolves blew a 2 goal halftime lead to draw with rivals Hannover last round. With the red hot Gladbach winning over Leverkusen on Saturday, Wolfsburg must get three points today in order to reclaim the second place – a place that seemed certain 1 month ago. Furthermore, Leverkusen is 4 points behind, so Wolfsburg surely does not want to endanger the 3rd position, especially as they have a tough schedule in the last two rounds.

Team news & lineups:
Paderborn will be without Ducksch, Bertels and Meha, while Wolfsburg finally has a 100% healthy lineup again, with long term injury Felipe Lopes being the only absentee.
Paderborn: Kruse – Heinloth, Rafa Lopez, Hünemeier, Brückner – Rupp – Wemmer, Bakalorz, Vrancic, Stoppelkamp – Lakic
Wolfsburg: Benaglio – Vieirinha, Naldo, Klose, Rodriguez – Gustavo, Guilavogui – Perisic, De Bruyne, Caligiuri (Schurrle) – Dost
Wolfsburg is not in the best form, but they weren’t as bad as results suggest recently, often being inches away from turning draws into wins. Finally having a completely healthy lineup should make a big difference and I expect the Wolves to come out strong, play their usual all out attacking football and win the game, possibly with goals to spare. I remember the earlier game this season, a 1-1 draw at VW Arena, but it was one of the luckiest results I ever saw, with Wolfsburg utterly dominating and missing 6-7 colossal chances (including a penalty), while Paderborn scored from a fluke penalty (which shouldn’t have been given).
Paderborn is not playing bad, but I don’t see them having what it takes to pull off another good result in a row, or being able to hold off Wolfsburg attacking quartet. Look for Wolfsburg to prove their superiority and get a good result. My tip is Wolfsburg to win with a 1 goal handicap. Prediction: Paderborn – Wolfsburg 0-3.
