Ghana – Togo

Asamoah Gyan Ghana goalGhana and Togo will square off in an International friendly to be played Monday in Accra. The match stands as preparation for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers. I`m not that much into friendlies usually, but there might be some good value in this one.

Ghana has been really poor lately, losing to Madagascar and Zambia, drawing with Mali. Avram Grant’s side must step up if they are to have a successful African Cup of Nations campaign and this friendly is truly their last chance to put things in order. Grant selected a solid squad, including the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Mensah, Badu, J. Ayew, Atsu and other usual called-up players from notable European clubs.

Togo will come into this match with a new coach, as Tom Saintfiet (ex Yemen, Malawi, Ethiopia or Zimbabwe) took over. Togo has been really poor in the last few years and they still lack quality in certain areas, particularly in the defensive area – the change of coach isn`t expected to have much impact. Togo’s last three matches were 1-4 against Guineea, 1-3 against today`s opponents Ghana and a 1-1 draw against Mauritius – their only match in 2015.

Team news: Andre Ayew is the big absentee for Ghana, who also misses a few other players – but Ayew will be the only big blow to the starting lineup. Togo has called up star striker Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham for this clash.

Ghana is miles better than Togo in terms of quality and with the African Cup of Nations qualifiers just around the corner, I`m confident they will step up and improve their performances. Playing at home will be a massive edge, as we know how hard it is to perform on the road in Africa. Togo lost the last 4 matches against Ghana and it`s likely that they will see another defeat today.

The odds should be around 1.30 here, but Ghana`s poor form provides us with an excellent price for a Ghana win, almost 1.50. My tip is Ghana to win with a 1 goal asian handicap – simple bet really and it should be a winner as well. Expect the odds to go down a bit until match time. Prediction: Ghana – Togo 2-0.

  1. Ghana has no poor form …they played with completly other squad against Madagascar Zambia and Mali with no players from top squad ..but you are true. clear home win

    • That is true, thanks for the clarifications. Though I have read statements of Ghana players / staff saying they want to end the poor run of form, they shouldn`t have gotten those results even with B team players.
