Hull City will play its opener in the Championship against Huddersfield Town, an interesting match with nice betting potential as well.
Hull’s relegation last season meant that some important players left the club, but the hosts still have an amazing squad for this level and they can field arguably one of the best lineups we saw in the last years of the Championship – even if they are rated as only 3rd favorites for winning it by the bookies. The club is also loaded with money after selling some of their stars, so Hull is really in a healthy position and there is excitement around the club despite the relegation. However, the hosts will need to be careful, as the Championship is one of the toughest leagues in the world and it can eat you up quickly, even if you have world class talent available.
Huddersfield finished 16th last season and generally struggled on the road, losing 10 out of 23 matches and winning just 5. Unlike Hull, who performed very well in friendlies, Huddersfield had a poor pre season and they are not looking great right now. A bottom half of the table finish is expected again for the Terriers, but they might actually be delighted if they repeat last seasons’ performance – as the bookies are rating them as the second worst team in the league right now, after Rotherham.

Team news & lineups:
Key striker Abel Hernandez is out for Hull, but the Tigers will still be able to field a stellar lineup. Huddersfield can field the best lineup, as they don`t have any injuries or suspensions.
Hull City: McGregor – Taylor, Dawson, Davies, Robertson – Elmohamady, Huddlestone, Meyler, Aluko – Jelavic, N`Doye
Huddersfield: Smithies – Smith, Hudson, Lynch, Davidson – Scannell, Hogg, Whitehead, Butterfield – Wells, Miller
You have to fancy Hull to win this one, they are clearly one class above Huddersfield and are coming after an excellent pre-season. The atmosphere in the squad is good and everybody is ready to go for a fast promotion back to the Premier League. Keeping Steve Bruce in charge also looks like a smart move in my opinion and credit to him as well for not leaving. Meeting Huddersfield in the first round, one of the worst sides in the Championship and poor away, looks like the perfect start for the tigers.
If this was not the first round and if this was not such an upset-prone league like the Championship. Hull would never have more than 1.50 to win. I`m happy with the current odds, so my tip will be a Hull City win. Prediction: Hull City – Huddersfield Town 2-0.
