Friday night football in England will see Aston Villa take on Manchester United in the Premier League second round.
Villa didn`t finish the previous season on a good note and lost a number of key players in the summer, most notably Benteke, Vlaar and Delph – arguably the backbone of the team. They did bring in a lot of new faces however and one of them, Gestede from Blackburn, scored the winning goal in the 1-0 first round win over Bournemouth. A good win for Villa, but it wasn`t exactly deserved – Bournemoth was the better team, had 60% possession and more chances to score.
Manchester United also made a lot of moves in the off season and started with a 1-0 win themselves, at home against Tottenham. It was far from a world class performance from Van Gaal’s boys, but clearly the team needs some time to jell and a win over a dangerous opponent like Tottenham was a very good result.

Gestede should start this time for Villa after making an impact from the bench last week. Okore is out, while, Gralish, Gil, Gardner and Crespo are doubtful. Manchester United will have to do without Jones, Fellaini and De Gea. Rojo is doubtful. Van Gaal will likely stick with the same first 11 that won over Spurs.

Aston Villa will like struggle to make an offensive impact this season, especially without Benteke and I can see them going scoreless tonight, as Manchester United was pretty solid at the back against Tottenham – when they were also missing De Gea, Jones and Rojo. Manchester United to win to nil seems like a value bet to me, but I will stay more on the safe side and tip “Both to score – No”. Expect a close game and Villa’s futility up front should be enough to make this a winning bet. Prediction: Aston Villa – Manchester United 0-1.
