Mainz – Dortmund

Mainz Dortmund betting preview Bundesliga

Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel will take on his former team when Mainz and Borussia meet in the first match of the Bundesliga ninth round.

Mainz is playing some good football this season, sitting on the 8th place after winning 4 and losing 4. The hosts generally had a do or die attitude this season, not being satisfied with draws and that might be the main reason for which they lost against the big guns they faced (Leverkusen, Schalke, Bayern) – though they did beat Borussia Monchengladbach. Mainz is on the back of a 3-2 win at Darmstadt and will try to take advantage of a potential international hangover for Borussia.

Dortmund won`t be too happy of playing Friday after sending most players to the National Teams in the past week, particularly since Tomas Tuchel really needed some time to get the guys back into shape. After starting the season with win after win, something happened with Dortmund as they failed to win any of the last 4 games in all competition and are fresh off a 1-5 drubbing suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Team news & lineups:

Frei, Soto, Sereno and Zimling will not play for Mainz, while Borussia won`t be able to count on Schmelzer, Sahin and Durm.

Mainz: Karius – Balogun, Bell, Bungert, Bengtsson – Latza, Baumgartlinger – Clemens, Malli, Samperio – Muto

Dortmund: Burki – Ginter, Hummels, Sokratis, Park – Weigl, Gundogan – Reus, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan – Aubameyang

Dortmund has generally beat Mainz lately, but today`s hosts were able to take the last home meeting they played, a 2-0 victory last season. Mainz has a couple of important absences, Fabian Frei particularly will be missed in midfield, but the home side still has a good shot at Dortmund today. Borussia is in poor form and will struggle playing so soon after the International break, so odds around 1.50 for an away win are really low, as this is far from a walk in the park for the guests.

I believe Mainz can make use of the home court advantage and take at least a draw here. This is a good, solid side and should be able to exploit Dortmund’s current problems. My tip is Mainz to cover the +0,75 asian handicap. Prediction: Mainz – Borussia Dortmund 1-1.

Pick: Mainz (+0,75 Asian Handicap)
Odds: 2.46 @ Pinnacle
Stake: 7
Possible profit: 10.22
Event date: 16 October
