Tottenham – Aston Villa

Tottenham and Aston Villa will put an end to the 11th round of the Premier League, with the two teams facing off at White Hart Late in what seems to be a one sided affair.

Spurs will climb up to the 5th place with a win here and hosting Aston Villa is definitely a great chance for Tottenham to keep their Champions League hopes very much alive. The hosts are in fine form, fresh off a 5-1 away win against Bournemouth and posting 4 wins and 2 draws in the last 6 Premier League games. The Spurs lost just once in the league and that was in the first round against Manchester United. However, for all the good things that are happening at Tottenham this season, they do have some problems in finishing off games – 5 draws in 10 league matches is a bit too much.

The visitors finally sacked Tim Sherwood last week, but haven`t been able to find a replacement yet and rely on interim coach Kevin McDonald for the time being. Aston Villa is dead last in the standings, losing 6 consecutive games in the Premier League and 8 of out 10 in total. Their only points in this campaign came against poor teams, Sunderland and Bournemouth. Aston Villa wasn`t even able to get a point at home last weekend against a Swansea side that was not in good form, ending up losing 2-1. Midweek they were defeated 2-1 by Southampton in the League Cup, so the situation is really dramatic. Leaving the results aside, the level of football is a disaster and there doesn`t seem to be any light on the horizon for the visitors. That match against Swansea last round really seemed to be a nail in the coffin – and for Tim Sherwood at least, it was.

Heung-Min, Bentaleb, Fazio, Pritchard and Chadli won`t be in Tottenham’s lineup today, while Tom Carroll is doubtful. Aston Villa doesn`t have any definite absentees, but may have to do without 2 or 3 players – as Lescott, Richards, Illori and Gardner are all questionable.

The way Villa is playing right now, they don`t seem able to get any points against anybody, let alone pulling off an upset. They have been non existent against the good teams this season, losing each and every time, so I fully expect an in form, confident Tottenham team to avoid any surprises and get three very important points at home in this last match of the round. Things may change with a new manager, but Villa is yet to find somebody to take over and they weren`t much better midweek in the League Cup with interim management.

Aston Villa leaked a lot of goals recently, while continuing to struggle in offense. Looking at the way they play, it would not be a shock by any means if Tottenham manages to win this by 3 or 4 goals. My tip is a Tottenham win with a 1 goal asian handicap, a bet I think is very much on the safe side and desirving of high stakes. Tottenham truly seems a more stable team this season, much less prone to being upset by weaker clubs. Actually they won all matches they should have won so far in the Premier League, the only exception being a 2-2 draw at home against Stoke – which was a bit of a fluke with Stoke coming back from 0-2 in the last 10 minutes.
