Bournemouth – Man Utd

Juan Mata Manchester United

Manchester United will be desperate to bounce back in the Premier League after disappointing Champions League exit, but Bournemouth will be pumped up after a brilliant win at Stamford Bridge last round.

Bournemouth’s 1-0 win at Chelsea, was a total shock, despite the fact that Mourinho’s side is struggling big time. It wasn’t even as lucky as you might expect – sure, Chelsea probably deserved the win, but Bournemouth had its chances, had solid possession and made its own luck. The result came to confirm some big progress made by the Premier League newcomers, who have been bottom of the table for a long time, but are now 17th in the standings and did not lose in the last three matches – drawing 2-2 with Swansea and 3-3 with Everton before winning at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United has been an absolute disaster in the last month or so, failing to win any of the last 4 matches in all competition. What’s worse, the level of football was atrocious, watching them play being a true test of character for fans. To top it all off, United was knocked out of the Champions League by Wolfsburg midweek, losing 3-2 after 3 consecutive draws – ironically, it was the best match United played in some time.

Team news & lineups:

Both teams are having serious issues with injuries. Bournemouth will miss Mings, Gradel, Wilson, Elphik and Pugh, while Tomlin, Arter and Federici are questionable. United won’t be able to count on Valencia, Darmian, Shaw, Rojo, Herrera, Rooney, Smalling, Jones and Schweinsteiger.

Bournemouth: Boruc – Daniels, Cook, Francis, Smith – Arter, Gosling, Stanislas, Ritchie, Surman – King

Man United: De Gea – Young, Blind, McNair, Varela – Carrick, Schneiderlin – Lingard, Mata, Depay – Martial

United dropped to 4th in the Premier League after the recent results and is 3 points off leaders Leicester, so there is no time for crying. The Devils really need to make use of this (theoretically) accessible game and reaffirm themselves as Premier League contenders, otherwise the season will take a really ugly turn.

Bournemouth has been impressive recently both defensively and offensively, but things must be kept in perspective as they haven’t been extraordinary. I believe they will feel the hangover effect after the Chelsea win much worse than United will feel it after the Wolfsburg loss – quality and experience being the reasons for this.

I expect United to bounce back and put on a better performance here, it really is a must win match for the whole club, from the players to the manager. It might not be pretty, but United should get past all the injuries and find a way to win against an inferior team. Bournemouth is still one of the worst 2-3 sides in the league and bound to lose soon, so my tip is Manchester United to win with a -0,25 asian handicap. The high odds for an away win allow us to take a little extra security with the asian spread. Prediction: Bournemouth – Manchester United 1-2.
