Eibar – Villarreal

Roberto Soldado Villarreal Primera Division

Villarreal will travel to take on Eibar at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua, with the visiting side well aware that a win would be huge in their quest to secure a Top 4 spot in Primera Division.

Eibar had a very good first part of the season, but once they found themselves safe from relegation, performances started to decline. The hosts have not won in the last 6 matches and often performed very poorly. On the bright side, they recorded two draws in the last two matches (both away) against Rayo and Getafe, after 4 consecutive defeats. Still, they were not impressive and barely salvaged a 1-1 result at Getafe last round.

Villarreal has not won in the last 4 matches, but the team will be confident after playing a great game last round, holding Barcelona to an entertaining 2-2 draw at El Madrigal. The visitors are currently in a good position to secure the 4th place, having a 6 point cushion. However, there are three very capable teams behind them (Sevilla, Celta and Bilbao), so the Yellow Sumbarine definitely can not afford to lose focus.

Team news & lineups:

Adrian and Ramis are suspended for Eibar. Kike, Jaime, Ekiza and Radosevic are also out. Villarreal won’t have Mario Gaspar and Dos Santos in the lineup, while Samuel, Musacchio and Costa are questionable.

Eibar: Riesgo – Capa, Pantic, Santos, Junca – Escalante, Garcia – Keko, Jota, Inui – Baston

Villarreal: Areola – Rukavina, Bonera, Ruiz, Bailly – Castillejo, Trigueros, Bruno, Suarez – Soldado, Bakambu

Villarreal played an excellent match last round and they should be fired up and ready to go today, after the International break. The visitors certainly need the points more than Eibar and I expect a visible difference in attitude, especially since Eibar looked pretty bored and slow in the last couple of months.

Eibar isn’t beating anybody right now and they are not the same team they were in 2015. The hosts lost 3 out of the last 4 home matches and only defeated the last placed Levante since January. At least a draw seems like a lock for Villarreal, but if the visitors play like they did last round, it should be an away win here.

All in all, my tip on this clash is Villarreal to win with a +0 asian handicap. I expect the visitors to have most of the ball and find the required gaps in an Eibar defense that misses a couple of key pieces. Prediction: Eibar – Villarreal 1-2.
