Liverpool – Chelsea

Liverpool Chelsea betting picks

Liverpool will face Chelsea in this intermediate Premier League match day, a very interesting battle which will count for the 37th round.

The hosts are on the back of a 2-0 win against Watford, a solid result which came after that brilliant 3-0 victory over Villarreal in the Europa League. It was the 7th win in the last 9 matches at home for Liverpool, a time span in which they did not lose and scored 25 goals.

‘Pool has plenty to play for in this match against Chelsea. They want a win in the last match of the season and they definitely want to keep up the good results ahead of the Europa League final. But, most importantly, they will want to assure Europa League qualification for next year in case they don`t win the competitions’ final against Sevilla – so this will be an extra objective for Klopp’s men. A win today would go a long way of getting Liverpool into a Top 6 or 7 spot, with the 7th place likely to send to Europe (unless Palace upsets Man Utd in the FA Cup final).

Chelsea is coming after a 2-3 defeat at Sunderland, a disappointing result in a match where Chelsea did not show enough desire against a super motivated team. It was the 8th time Chelsea failed to win a game in their last 10 matches, so the Blues are not exactly playing great football in the closing stages of this season – not that they played any better earlier. The match also featured an unexpected end of Terry’s Chelsea career, as he was sent off in the last minute and banned for two rounds.

Team news & lineups:

Henderson, Origi, Sakho and Rossiter will not be in Liverpool’s lineup, while Ings and Gomez will likely be out as well. Chelsea will be without Terry, Zouma, Remy and probably Ivanovic.

Liverpool: Mignolet – Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno – Can, Milner – Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho – Sturridge

Chelsea: Courtois – Azpilicueta, Cahill, Miazga, Baba Rahman – Matic, Mikel – Willian, Fabregas, Hazard – Costa

Chelsea’s defeat at Sunderland was another obvious example of how the Blues don`t care too much about this end of the season. Aside for that 2-2 draw against rivals Tottenham two rounds ago, Chelsea was constantly outplayed by inferior teams which showed more heart and fighting spirit.

I have to say I`m a bit surprised that a Liverpool win has such high odds here. When teams like Norwich or Sunderland are rated at 1.70 – 1.80 just based on motivation alone, Liverpool gets over 2.00. Ok, they are not as desperate as those clubs, but they do want and need a win – definitely being more motivated than Chelsea.

‘Pool is at home, is more motivated and is more confident than Chelsea. Chelsea’s absences in defense should also help a Liverpool side that is not shy when it comes to creating chances. Above all, they are simply playing the better football. As such, my tip here is Liverpool to win and I will bet medium – high stakes on this pick. Prediction: Liverpool – Chelsea 2-1.
