Liverpool – Sevilla

Europa League final Liverpool Sevilla prediction

Basel will be the host of the 2015 / 2016 Europa League final between Liverpool and FC Sevilla, with the English side a 2.40 favorite to win in regular time. Both sides rested their main guys in the domestic games they had to play over the weekend.

Liverpool will definitely be confident ahead of this final after pulling off two great comebacks in the quarters and semifinals against Dortmund and Villarreal. The recent play of Klopp’s side wasn`t that great, with draws against Chelsea and WBA after modest performances, but they clearly had this match against Sevilla in mind. Liverpool is definitely improving under Klopp and the general feeling in the club is very good right now.

Sevilla played some excellent football in the first part of 2016, including putting together a brilliant run of 17 consecutive home wins at one point. Unfortunately for the Spaniards, as strong as they have been at home, they were the complete opposite outside the comfort of their own stadium. Sevilla failed to win a single road game in the entire La Liga season (!!) and failed to win in 6 of the 7 away matches in Europe. What’s worse for Sevilla, they come into this final on the back of some poor form and shaky play. Sevilla won only twice in the last 10 matches in all competitions (losing 6 times).

Team news & lineups:

Liverpool does not have new injuries or suspensions ahead of the final, but they continue to miss Henderson, Origi, Ings, Sakho, Rossiter and Gomez. Sevilla will not have Krohn-Dehli and Reyes in the lineup.

Liverpool: Mignolet – Clyne, Lovren, Toure, Moreno – Can, Milner – Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino – Sturridge

Sevilla: Soria – Mariano, Rami, Carrico, Tremoulinas – Krychowiak, N’Zonzi – Konoplyanka, Banega, Vitolo – Gameiro

Sevilla is the most successful club in recent Europa League history, they are the reigning champions and they deserve a lot of respect. Somehow, they always seem to pull it off in this competition, regardless if they are favorites or not. However, this time they just don`t seem to be up to the task.

The visitors have been an absolute disaster away from home this season and while Liverpool is not playing at home, the Spaniards are still outside of their own stadium. Additionally, Sevilla is playing its worst football since the start of the campaign and it could not have happened at a worse time. Some of their performances in the last few weeks have been really poor.

If Sevilla was playing better football and if they were not so bad on the road, I would not trust Liverpool here. But in the current circumstances, I expect Klopp’s side to prevail. They are the better team individually, they are in better form and have a ton more confidence. They will also feel more at home than the Spaniards – and, bottom line, ‘Pool is simply playing the better football right now.

My tip here is Liverpool to win the Europa League, whether it will be in 90 minutes or not. I do expect it to be in 90 minutes though, considering the level of football showed by the two clubs in recent weeks. I`m satisfied with an investment of 8 units on this bet. Prediction: Liverpool – FC Sevilla 2-1.

Pick: Liverpool to win the final

  1. very good betting preview

  2. First time I’ve went against a tip from yourself despite an as always excellent write up but for me I think far too many people are under-estimating Sevilla , I think this is going to be a very very tactical game…Yes Seville’s recent form isn’t the best but it’s been that way with this very game in mind…..I’ve taken Seville to lift the trophy at 2.40…..

    • Your own judgement is always more important than what some tipster on the web thinks, so good choice to go with your own opinion.

Indeed Sevilla must not be underestimated, especially in the Europa League – but I feel that their poor form and horrible record outside Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan are two things that they can`t overcome against a solid team like Liverpool. All I can wish you is that the team who will deserve it will also win it.
