Germany – Poland

Germany Poland Euro 2016 betting preview

Germany and Poland will square off in the Euro 2016 Group C, after also meeting in the qualies, where they split their matches. Here in France, both teams won their opening games.

There were questionmarks over Germany ahead of this tournament, as the Panzers lost some key players due to injuries / retirements and looked very shaky in the pre – Euro friendlies. Despite the 2-0 win over Ukraine, it can`t be said that Germany silenced the doubters. Their defense looked weak, as predicted and only luck made them escape with a clean sheet. Still, Germany played good football overall and definitely remains one of the favorites to win it all.

Poland had a tough time against a Northern Ireland team that defended in numbers and the Poles had to pass the ball around for the entire 90 minutes, barely managing to find a goal in the second half. The win was no less than expected for a side that impressed in the qualifiers (beating Germany at home) and that owns a World class, decisive player like Lewandowski – even if it was Milik who got the breakthrough in the 50th minute against Northern Ireland.

Team news & lineups:

Mertesacker, Lahm, Gundogan and Reus have been ruled out of Euro 2016 due to retirements / injuries. Additionally, Hummels is also doubtful. Joachim Low might decide to give Mario Gomez the nod in the starting lineup ahead of Mario Gotze. As for Poland, only Szczesny is a slight doubt, but he should start.

Germany: Neuer – Howedes, Boateng, Mustafi, Hector – Khedira, Kroos – Muller, Ozil, Draxler – Gomez

Poland: Szczesny – Piszczek, Glik, Pazdan, Jedrzejczyk – Blaszczykowski, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Kapustka – Milik, Lewandowski

Poland defeated Germany 2-0 at home in the qualifying group, before losing 1-3 in Munich, where they were also competitive. The Poles have a really solid first 11 and will try to exploit Germany’s defensive weaknesses. They will obviously count on Lewandowski to do that, but I expect Germany to be more focused at the back, making it more difficult for the Poles to create serious goal scoring opportunities.

I can see Germany edging a narrow win, but Poland is a good side, they looked very well set up tactically against Northern Ireland and I think they will stand their ground at least until half time. My tip here, with low – medium stakes on the bet, is a half time draw. Prediction: Germany – Poland 1-0 (0-0 half time).

Pick: Half time draw
Odds: 2.38 @ Youwin
Stake: 5
Possible profit: 6.90
Event date: 16 June
