Kevin Anderson will take on Andreas Seppi in the second round at Wimbledon, with the big South African currently rated as a 1.25 odds favorite by the bookmakers.
Kevin Anderson struggled with injuries early in the year and didn`t have any success in the first few months of 2017, but he got better on clay, posting a 12-6 win-loss record on his worst surface. With his form coming back, he was expected to do some damage on grass, but that wasn`t the case. He played one tournament before Wimbledon and he was handily beaten by Gasquet in the Eastbourne second round. Here at SW19 he defeated Verdasco in 4 sets, but Anderson was very lucky to avoid a decider.
Much like Anderson, Seppi had a poor start to the year and had to slowly work his way back into form. A very good grass court player, Seppi got his best results of the year on the green, particularly reaching the final in Antalya (def. Tipsarevic, Albot, lost to Mannarino). In the first round here at Wimbledon Seppi lost a set against Gombos, but his 6-2 3-6 6-2 6-1 win was completely dominant.

Both players are very good on grass, Anderson due to his big serve, Seppi due to his quick movement and thinking. It will be a contrast of styles, but it`s hard to say any player has a matchup advantage.
Seppi seems to be a bit underrated here. He`s still not exactly at his top level, but neither is Anderson. Also, the results of the two players in the first round may be a bit misleading. Anderson did beat Verdasco 3-1, but he saved 4 set points to avoid a decider, and Verdasco is out of form. At the same time, Seppi was very good and dominant in his first round match despite also losing a set.
Anderson should win the match, but Seppi is more than capable of pushing it to 4 or 5 sets. This looks like it could go to distance, and as such the 36,5 under / over line looks extremely low. Considering Anderson’s big serve and predisposition for tiebreaks, betting the over 36,5 basically means you are betting over 3,5 sets (a bet with much lower odds).
Look for Anderson to generally dominate this clash, but he`s not playing well enough to stay consistent for 3 straight sets, and Seppi is a very dangerous opponent on grass, especially when he has the rhythm and confidence given by his 4 wins in his last 5 matches – even if he didn`t beat a player of Anderson’s level in some time.
Seppi should win a set based on him simply being better than Anderson, but he also has the chance of “stealing” a tiebreak. There should be at least 1 or 2 here, with chances of 50-50 for each player.
