Celtic – Bayern

Celtic Bayern Munich betting preview

Bayern Munich will attempt to wrap up qualification to the Champions League KO stage, as a win against Celtic will almost definitely grant them passage from Group B.

Celtic has three points so far in this group after an excellent 3-0 win in Belgium against Anderlecht, but the Scottish champions have been thoroughly outplayed by PSG (0-5 at home) and Bayern (0-3 away) in the other two matches. Overall Celtic is having a good season under Brendan Rodgers and they are still undefeated in the domestic competition (8 wins, 3 draws), so they will hope to claim a famous result in this clash with Bayern.

The Germans have changed their fortunes under new manager Jupp Heynkes, clicking right away since he took over and winning all 5 matches under his reign (one of them via penalties against Leipzig in the Cup). Bayern has a 12-1 goal difference in the 5 games with Heynkess at helm and is coming after a 2-0 home victory against the same Leipzig over the weekend.

Team news & lineups:

Sviatchenko, Ralston and Simunovic are out for Celtic. Bayern will miss Ribery, Bernat, Neuer, Muller and Lewandowski.

Celtic: Gordon – Gamboa, Lustig, Boyata, Tierney – Ntcham, Brown – Roberts, Armostrong, Sinclair – Griffiths

Bayern Munich: Ulreich – Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Alaba – Tolisso, Vidal – Robben, Alcantara, Rodriguez – Coman

The absences of Lewandowski and Muller will no doubt hurt the visitors, who will have to improvise up front, possibly with Kingsley Coman. However, against a team like Celtic it shouldn`t make such a big difference.

The Scots are having a good season but they are obviously overmatched at this level and the heavy beatings they took earlier in the group from PSG and Bayern stand as proof of this statement. They particularly struggle against qucik, technical teams like these two.

The Bavarians are playing very well under Heynkess and will be motivated to virtually assure qualification so they can focus on the Bundesliga, where they just climbed back to the top spot. Bayern also needs a win if they are to have any chance to challenge PSG for the first place, so they have plenty to fight for in this clash.

My tip is the resurgent Bayern to cover the 1 goal asian handicap here, I reckon at the very least this bet should be void, but the visitors definitely have the quality and form to win this by more than just one. Prediction: Celtic – Bayern Munich 0-2.

Pick: Bayern Munich (-1 Asian Handicap)

  1. You think Bayern -1.5 @ 1.833 is too low?
