The LA Clippers will continue their race for a playoff spot when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night in the NBA.
The Clippers (33-28, 17-13 home) have been on a consistent comeback trail since December or so in the Western Conference, and are now right there in the hunt for a playoff position. LA has consistently played great basketball in the last couple of months, and also short term. Doc Rivers and his guys have won 5 of their last 7 games, only losing against the mighty Rockets and Warriors, both times putting in a good effort. Last time out they beat the Knicks by 23 points on Friday night.
The Nets (20-43, 8-22 away) played a bit better than expected this season, but they have been totally tanking lately, putting up some really poor performances. Brooklyn has now lost 10 of their last 11 games, and their last road win was way back in mid January. In the last game, the Nets were beaten in Sacramento by the Kings on Friday night.

They will be without Beverley, Gallinari, Bradley, Evans and probably Ty Wallace. The Nets continue to miss Lin, while Okafor is a doubt.
The Clippers are playing some really good basketball both long term and short term despite all the injuries. Teodosic, Rivers, Williams, Harris or DJ are all performing great, and the bench still has quality and depth. The team is well gelled and plays well together, so maybe it`s not so surprising how impressive their consistency since December has been. What is more, they showed an amazing ability to avoid upsets, and do the job against teams they were supposed to beat.
The last time the Clippers lost against a non playoff team was back on December 23rd, in Memphis, which is an amazing statistic. You could also count the loss in Utah in mid January, but Utah was becoming one of the hottest teams in the NBA at that point, and is still in the playoff race.
LA’s track record against inferior opposition has been magnificent in the last few months, and they also covered the spread in most games against non playoff teams. Their consistency has been a gold mine for bettors since December.
Now the Clippers welcome a Nets team which has nothing left to fight for, and is playing some of the worst basketball in the NBA.
Surely you have to feel that LA will win again and cover the point spread again against such an opponent, given that there`s nothing to suggest otherwise, and taking into account the fact that the Clippers will definitely come out with focus and intensity. They can`t afford an off day given how tight the playoff race in the West is.
I expect a similar game to the Clippers – Knicks match on Friday, when the Clips won by 23. Obviously anything can happen in sports, but my analysis, along with logic and common sense, suggest high stakes on the home side are warranted here.
My tip will be LA to cover the 8 point (asian) handicap, and hopefully the Clippers will deliver the profit yet again. Prediction: LA Clippers – Brooklyn Nets 123 – 105.
