Augsburg and Dortmund will look for their first points and their first goal(s) of the Bundesliga season when the two teams meet at SGL Arena.
Augsburg did not look good at all in the season opener, losing 2-0 at Hoffenheim – and what`s worse, it was the second goalless defeat after Augsburg lost 1-0 to Magdeburg in the DFB Pokal earlier this month. On the bright side, Augsburg has always been a different team at home and now in their first game on their arena they should feel confident of improvement. This is a good side that surely won’t have any problems with relegation, they brought in some decent players, but seemingly they need some time to regain their cohesiveness.
Dortmund lost in the first round to a Leverkusen side in blistering form, but they really should have done better than a 0-2 home defeat, especially after showing excellent potential in the 2-0 SuperCup win over Bayern. Dortmund did have chances and could have scored once or twice to get a result, but it was not to be. Jurgen Klopp said he expects his side to perform better this time around, but unfortunately the German manager still has a lot of injuries to deal with.

Augsburg will miss Moravek and Esswein, while Bobadilla is a doubt. Dortmund has serious squad problems – Hummels, Gundogan, Schmelzer, Sahin, Kirch, Ji and Blaszczykowski are unavailable, while Ramos and Bender are questionable. Weidenfeller will return in goal and will take the armband as well.

Borussia blew Augsburg out 4-0 on this stadium in the same period last year and I`m inclined to pick Dortmund to win again, but they are so banged up and might be surprised by Augsburg, a very solid home team. I reckon the over is a better bet. These teams can score goals, that`s for sure, and their direct meetings have been highly entertaining in recent years. Four of the last five meetings ended with over 3,5 goals, including the last four matches. Last season it was 4-0 and 2-2. Augsburg is yet to score in two competitive games this season and Dortmund did not find the net against Leverkusen, but this is not a problem, actually it gives us much better odds. I doubt any of these two will go another game without scoring, Dortmund has problems in defense, so my tip is over 2,5 goals and probably a narrow Dortmund win will also happen. Prediction: Augsburg – Dortmund 2-3.
