Aberdeen – Hibernian

Aberdeen will try to keep the second place in the Scottish Premiership standings when they host Hibernian at Pittodrie Stadium. This should be an entertaining clash between two good teams, but of course Aberdeen is the better side and must be considered favorite.

Aberdeen is probably the second best team in Scotland this season. A very strong squad, a good manager and the Dons are slowly regaining their former glory. Aberdeen is second in the standings, 1 point in front of the 3rd place, so they can’t afford any missteps. Celtic of course are virtually champions. At the moment, Aberdeen is in amazing form: 7 wins in the last 8 games, with 5 clean sheets and the only defeat at the hands of the very strong Motherwell. The hosts will miss Considine and Robertson due to injury; but on-loan Swansea defender Alan Tate will probably make his first start for the club.

Hibernian is a good team in Scotland, people saw them as almost a lock for the playoff places. But a horrible start of the season sent Hibs in the bottom half of the table. Still, they managed to climb to the 6th place with a very good run of form lately – minly thanks to the new manager Terry Butcher. Hibernian has 3 wins and 2 draws in the last 5 games, but their form is not so impressive if you look closer. Hibs played only with Dundee United from the top 4 in these 5 games. They also played with the 2 worst teams in the league. Sure, Hibs are playing better than at the start of the season, but the reality is that things are not really clicking for them this season. Hibernian does not have any injuries or suspensions.

Hibs are overrated today due to their recent results and because of this we have very good odds on Aberdeen (I would not have given them over 1.70). This is the only thing going for them today, but they did not face strong opponents. Aberdeen is in even better form, so this argument falls.

I can see Aberdeen winning this game. They are the better team, they are playing excellent football lately and of course they have the home court advantage. It will be hard for the visitors to break down Aberdeen’s rock solid defense, and the home side should have 90 minutes worth of time to try and find the winning goal/goals. Out of all betting options, Aberdeen to win seems the most logical one, and I like the odds very much. The two teams already met this season and Aberdeen won 2-0 on the road. This could happen again in this game. My pick is Aberdeen – Hibernian 2-0. The Dons to continue their excellent run of form.
