ACS Poli – Dinamo

Struggling playoff candidates Dinamo Bucharest will look to get out of the slump as they travel to relegation battlers ACS Poli Timisoara in the 17th round of the Romania Liga 1.

ACS Poli is currently sitting on the 10th place out of 14 in Romania and they have not won a game in Liga 1 since 7 rounds ago, in early September. They are on the back of a 1-1 draw at fellow relegation strugglers Botosani, a pretty decent result for today`s hosts. This is an artificial team created overnight with public money, composed mostly of all kinds of old players who were former decent in Romania, but not anymore.

Dinamo Bucharest seemed to be a lock for a playoff (Top 6) spot a few rounds ago, but the current 6th placed team has hit a big wall lately. Dinamo lost 3 out of the last 4 Liga 1 games, but the biggest problem was in the last two matches, when they lost to Craiova and Viitorul with a 1-8 goal difference! Indeed, theste two teams are pretty solid sides in Romania and especially the big loss against Viitorul (1-5) was nowhere near the reality on the pitch, but still there can be no excuse for Dinamo. On the bright side, between these two losses, Dinamo defeated a leading Liga 1 side on the road in the Cup, a 3-2 victory against Pandurii Tg Jiu.

ACS Poli will miss Popa, Barbut, Popovici and Sarmov, while Canu is questionable. Dinamo won`t be able to count on Mevlja and Serban, but they get back key defensive midfielder and captain Anton.

Dinamo is not in a good moment right now, but the recent two humiliating losses should drive them to do better in this match and we get great odds for the visitors. Dinamo is not in such bad form as the win against Pandurii 10 days ago proved and The Red Dogs are still a pretty good side in this league. They lost just once on the road this season, while Poli hasn`t won a Liga 1 game in 7 rounds and has no reason to feel confident today.

Really can`t see this ACS Poli side grabbing the three points today, so the obvious bet is to go with the visitors. My tip is Dinamo Bucharest to win with a +0 asian handicap. They really need a win here, from all points of view and they are clearly the better side – while Timisoara does not have the quality or the form to take advantage of any issues Dinamo might have. Earlier in the season it was 2-1 for Dinamo and I can see a similar result happening today.
