Local favorite Andy Murray and Roger Federer will square off in a blockbuster semifinal at Wimbledon. The weather forecast doesn`t predict rain, so the roof will most likely not be deployed in this match.
Murray regained his top form this year and he`s surely in a position to challenge for Majors right now, especially at Wimbledon. The Brit did lose two sets so far, against Seppi and Karlovic, so he did show signs of weakness, but overall his play was solid and he will look to build on it coming into this semifianl. Andy is on the back of a solid straight sets win against Pospisil, managing one break in each set, without getting broken himself.
Federer is really playing some of his best tennis right now. The Swiss lost serve just once in the whole tournament, against Simon in the quarters, but it was really an accident – some “Hail Mary” returns from Gilles, two errors from Federer and he got broken to love while serving for the set. But the Swiss broke back immediately and got a very comfortable and quick win against the intelligent Frenchman. The serve has always been the best barometer for Roger’s level of tennis, so it`s no wonder that he cruised so far in this tournament, losing a single set – a tiebreak against big serving Sam Groth.

Federer leads the Head 2 Head 12-11 and won the last three meetings – the last one, a blistering 6-0 6-1 win at the London World Tour finals. The Head 2 Head on grass is 1-1, Federer winning the 2012 Wimbledon final, with Andy getting revenge immediately in the Olympic final – though Federer came into that drained after a semifinal thriller with Del Potro.
Between the two players, Murray is the only one to have shown some weakness in these two weeks and he should be the underdog here. Federer is playing somewhere close to his best level of tennis, he`s serving incredibly well and, very importantly, he is rested after winning his matches extremely fast – so I don`t see his age being an issue. Maybe in the final, but not now. In these conditions, he doesn`t seem likely to lose against anybody. It remains to be seen if the recent Head 2 Head losses that Murray suffered will have a negative effect on him. Andy is playing much better right now, but surely he hasn`t forgotten those 3 consecutive losses, culminating with the disaster in London.
If Federer continues to serve at the same level and keep the unforced errors number low, he will win this. Murray is playing great, but he`s not at his absolute best – and even that could be insufficient if Federer keeps up the same intensity. My tip is Federer to win and I actually see him winning the whole thing, the first time in a long time when I`m feeling like that without thinking about odds or value. However, it has to be said that the odds are dropping on this bet. Prediction: Andy Murray – Roger Federer 6-4 5-7 4-6 6-7.
