Arsenal – West Brom

Arsenal West Brom prediction 25 September

Arsenal will look to continue their apparent resurgence when they face one of their favorite opponents, West Brom, in the last match of Premier League’s 6th round.

Arsenal seems to have navigated well through the mini crisis they faced a few weeks ago, when they lost to Stoke and were trashed by Liverpool. Since then, Arsenal has 3 wins and 1 draw in all competitions, with arguably their most impressive performance coming last weekend at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal showed aggression and heart in a 0-0 draw, and a fair case can be made that they actually deserved to beat Chelsea in that game. Last time out, Arsenal defeated Doncaster 1-0 midweek in the League Cup.

West Brom is sitting on the 10th place in the Premier League, one point above Arsenal, and they will feel good about their start of the season. WBA lost just once in the league, but it has to be said that they only faced relegation candidates in their five matches so far – so the level of opposition was rather poor. Also, WBA failed to win any of their last 4 games in all competitions (2 draws, 2 losses), and is coming after a 1-2 home loss to Man City in the League Cup.

Team news & lineups:

Cazorla and Coquelin continue to be unavailable for Arsenal, while Welbeck is a new absentee. Ozil, Chambers and Walcott are questionable and chances are they will not feature. West Brom has doubts over the fitness of Livermore, Brunt, Chadli and Burke.

Arsenal: Cech – Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal – Bellerin, Xhaka, Ramsey, Kolasinac – Iwobi, Sanchez – Lacazette

West Bromwich Albion: Foster – Dawson, McAuley, Evans, Gibbs – Krychowiak, Barry – Phillips, Livermore, Rodriguez – Rondon

Arsenal was not impressive midweek against Doncaster, but they used a lot of rotation in that match, so they should be much better today against West Brom. The Gunners really need to win this game in order to stay in contact with the top clubs – especially after all of them won their matches this round.

Fortunately for Arsenal, they will meet an opponent against whom they always had great success at the Emirates. West Brom lost in their previous 6 visits here, 4 times by two or more goals, and 5 times to nil. Tony Pulis was manager in the previous three H2H meetings at the Emirates, so it`s safe to say his old school style doesn`t quite work against Wenger`s Arsenal on the road (at home, WBA had much more success).

While there is still room for improvement, Arsenal looked good in the last couple of weeks and I expect them to claim the points they badly need against an inferior opponent against which they match up well.

Odds on the hosts might not be spectacular, but I think they are more than fair. My tip will be Arsenal to cover the -1 asian handicap, it looks like a pretty safe bet which should at least be void – but hopefully the Gunners will be able to win by 2 or more, and I expect them to do so. Prediction: Arsenal – West Brom 2-0.
