Hawks – Knicks

Kristaps Porzingis dunk Knicks Hawks

The NY Knicks will look to continue their good run when they face the struggling Hawks in Atlanta.

The Hawks (3-15, 1-6 home) decided to go in full rebuild mode over the Summer and, with a poor roster, Atlanta has put together the worst record in the entire NBA so far. Last time out, the Hawks lost by 13 at home against a Clippers side which was on a 9 game losing streak. Even their 3 wins were unimpressive, coming against poor teams like the Mavs and the Kings, and against a Cleveland side which was losing against everybody at the time Atlanta beat them.

New York (10-7, 1-4 away) has been surprisingly solid so far, and most of that has to do with the emergence of Kristaps Porzingis as a legit superstar. The Knicks have struggled in the bottom pits of the league over the last few years, but this season has been completely different, with Porzingis evolving into one of the best players in the league (4th leading scorer right now). The Knicks have won 3 of their last 4 games and will surely be confident of adding to that when facing the Hawks.

Team news: The Hawks will be without Taylor, Muscala, and possibly Babbit, the last two being important rotation pieces. Third choice PG Ron Baker is the only absentee for New York.

The Knicks are definitely the better team, having much better momentum and form compared to the Hawks. However, they won just once on the road this season out of five tries, so they are yet to prove themselves outside the comfort of Madison Square Garden.

The thing though is that New York had really tough games on the road this season, playing OKC, Boston, Cleveland, Toronto and Orlando – all of those being playoff bound teams, maybe except Orlando. Facing arguably the worst team in the league, Atlanta, should be a much easier task for the NY Knicks.

In fact, New York has taken care of the job very consistently against inferior teams this season. All of their losses, home or away, were against solid, playoff teams (again, maybe except Orlando, but the Magic are still a good side). The Knicks have won 100% of their games as a favorite this year, which is very impressive. They are also 11-6-0 ATS (although just 1-4-0 ATS away).

Given Atlanta’s futility and New York consistency, it`s hard to see past a Knicks win here, and I believe the 1.5 point spread favoring the Knicks is really on the low side. There`s just nobody on the Hawks who could stop Porzingis and, unless he has a miserable night, he should dominate this game.

The Knicks will see this as a massive opportunity to get themselves going on the road, so I will back them to do just that. My tip will be New York to cover the -2 point (asian) handicap. Prediction: Atlanta Hawks – New York Knicks 100 – 110.
