Barcelona – Juventus

Barcelona Juventus prediction

Barcelona will seek another Champions League miracle at Camp Nou and they will fully need one after being outplayed in Torino for a 0-3 loss in the first leg off this Champions League quarterfinal.

Barcelona played a poor match in Torino, something which is becoming a habit for them on the road. 0-3 will be a difficult result to overturn, but Barca can draw confidence from their 6-1 home win over PSG in the last round, after losing 0-4 in France. For all of Barcelona’s faults, they have been a much different team at home, posting an amazing record of 14 wins and 1 draw in the last 15 games – including a 3-2 victory against Sociedad over the weekend, without Neymar and Iniesta.

Juventus is on the back of a 2-0 away win against Pescara, surprisingly opting to field a very strong lineup, despite the Serie A title being virtually in the bag. It was the 3rd consecutive win to nil for Juventus, who is having an excellent season in all competitions. They were great in the first leg against Barca as well, showing that they truly are in contention for the Champions League title.

Team news & lineups:

Barcelona will get back Busquets, which will be a very important plus for them. Vidal and Rafinha remain sidelined, while Mascherano and Arda Turan are doubtful. It remains to be seen if Barcelona will continue with three at the back, or field Alba instead of Mathieu and drop Sergi Roberto back for a 4-3-3 with two classic wing backs. Juventus will miss Pjaca and there are doubts over the fitness of Dybala, but he is expected to feature.

Barcelona: Ter Stegen – Sergi Roberto, Umtiti, Pique, Alba – Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta – Suarez, Messi, Neymar

Juventus: Buffon – Dani Alves, Barzagli, Chiellini, Sandro – Khedira, Pjanic – Cuadrado, Dybala, Mandzukic – Higuain

The Italians proved themselves as an elite side in the first leg and looking at how that match went, it`s hard to see them having problems with qualification. That seemed to be the case with PSG as well, but in all honesty Juve is a better team than the French side, and more importantly they excel at discipline, tactics and organization. They are fantastic in transition (which could grant them a goal against a poor Barca defense) and it seems highly unlikely for the hosts to smell another miracle.

Nevertheless, Barcelona has been a totally different team at home this season, reminiscent of the side that dominated world football in the past years. They are scoring an average of 4.5 goals at Camp Nou in their last 6 matches and surely look value to bang in a couple against Juve as well.

The impression left by the first leg remains strong, but after all it was just one match and things should be different at Camp Nou, with both teams being particularly strong at home.

I highly doubt Barca can make a push for qualification, but all in all the hosts should have enough for at least a narrow home win – a result which Juventus would be more than happy with. My tip is Barcelona to win, with medium – high stakes. Prediction: FC Barcelona – Juventus 2-1.
