BATE – Leverkusen

Javier Hernandez Leverkusen Champions League

Massive clash in Group E of the Champions League, with BATE Borisov and Bayer Leverkusen being 2 and 1 points respectively behind Roma in the fight for the second place. The match obviously has great implications for the third place as well. Barcelona is leading the group, being virtually qualifierd.

BATE played much better in the Champions League this year compared to last season, which is not a surprise, as they have a better team and are performing better domestically as well. With the title booked since more than 1 month ago, the hosts are focusing on their European matches and have been solid so far, despite losing 3 out of 4. BATE defeated Roma at home, played two decent matches against Barcelona (0-2, 0-3), but did suffer a heavy 1-4 loss in Germany.

Leverkusen missed a couple of good opportunities in this group, having Barcelona on the ropes at Camp Nou and leading Roma 2-0 at home, but blew both of them and has only 4 points to show for, with a match against Barca coming in the last round. Needless to say this is a must win match for the visitors and they will come in with good morale, after finally winning a game (3-1 vs. Frankfurt on the road) after 3 tight, heartbreaking losses against Wolfsburg, Roma and Koln. They still allowed a goal however, which is a trend this season.

Bet on BATE Borisov vs. Bayer Leverkusen with the highest UCL odds at 1xBet.com.

Team news & lineups:

BATE Borisov can field the best lineup with the exception of Rodionov. Team news are much worse for Leverkusen, who will have to do without Hilbert, Topraj, Jedvaj, Papadopoulos, Ryu and Aranguiz. More so, Bender will likely be out as well. Bayer misses virtually all its starting defense, which is horrible news as they were already a disgrace defensively.

BATE Borisov: Chernik – Dubra, Polyakov, Milunovic, Mladenovic – Yablonski, Nikolic – Stashevich, Hleb, Volodko – Signevich

Bayer Leverkusen: Leno – Donati, Tah, Ramalho, Wendell – Kramer, Kampl – Bellarabi, Calhanoglu, Mehmedi – Chicharito

It hasn`t been a great season for Leverkusen until now and the key words were inconsistency and terrible defense. Bayer did show brilliant football at times, but their defense was rarely able to keep up and now the visitors find themselves in a critical situation in this group. Leverkusen allowed 15 goals in the last 6 matches, excluding a game against poor Viktoria Koln in the DFB Pokal.

It won`t be easy playing in Belarus against an inspired BATE Borisov side, particularly with all the injuries. BATE Borisov will smell blood against an improvised Leverkusen defense and will aim to win the game, as they showed they can play attacking football in this group. The bet to take here is clearly on goals, as the two sides played a very entertaining match in Germany and now Leverkusen is without almost its entire first choice defensive setup.

The Germans already conceded 10 goals in 4 matches in this group, but also scored 11. Hard to see this trend of high scoring matches changing in the current circumstances, with Leverkusen having to go for the win and missing so many key defensive pieces. My tip is over 2,5 goals to be scored and prices on the under / over market, specifically the over bets, are plummeting. Prediction: BATE Borisov – Bayer Leverkusen 2-3.
