Dortmund – Hamburg

Both sides are in massive need of points when they meet today at Signal Iduna Park in a match counting for the 7th round in Bundesliga.

Dortmund alternated great performances with much lesser ones in all competitions so far, but overall their league campaign has been horrendous and Dortmund has just 7 points in 6 rounds, sitting on the 13th place in the table. The last three matches were particularly poor, with Dortmund gaining just 1 point – however, they showed another face midweek in the Champions League, blowing out Anderlecht 3-0 away. Klopp will be desperate for his side to replicate the European performances in Bundesliga and the match against Hamburg at home seems like an excellent one to start with.

The visitors are on the last place in the standings with just 2 points – however, one of them was a 0-0 draw at home against Bayern, so despite the deep crisis, Hamburg proved it can still take on the big boys in certain circumstances. Unfortunately for Hamburg, their offensive efforts are absolutely futile right now, the team scored a single goal in 6 matches and if they don`t improve they seem doomed at Signal Iduna Park, as it`s very unlikely that Dortmund will go scoreless.

Team news: Borussia has the usual lengthy injury list – Reus, Blaszczykowski, Mkhitaryan, Sahin, Kirch and Gundogan are out. However, Klopp will hope the Subotic – Hummels back line will give his side increased defensive strength. Hamburg is without Rajkovic, Adler, Ilicevic, Beister and Muller.

I expect Dortmund to start strong and they should really be able to take all three points here. Their recent bad run in Bundesliga must come to an end, and looking at their performance against Anderlecht midweek, but also at Hamburg`s form, there`s every reason to believe the rejuvenation will come today. Reus missing will be a blow for Borussia but even without him they are surely able to cover handicaps, and I reckon they will do it today at home – especially considering there are very good chances Hamburg will not score. My tip is Dortmund to win with a -1,5 handicap. Prediction: Borussia Dortmund – Hamburg 2-0.
