Gladbach – Ingolstadt

Thorgan Hazard goal Gladbach Bundesliga

Borussia Monchengladbach will try to continue the recent run of excellent form when they host Ingolstadt in the 12th round of the German Bundesliga.

Since Andre Schubert was appointed as caretaker manager, Gladbach’s abysmal start to the season is long forgotten. The hosts finally found chemistry after the transfer moves made in the summer and are playing top class football at the moment.

Borussia has 6 consecutive wins in Bundesliga, all of them by at least two goals. GLadbach scored 3 or more goals in 5 of these 6 matches, including the last three. And the level of opposition was not bad, with the likes of Wolfsburg or Schalke. The only time Gladbach failes to win in the last 10 matches in all competitions was against Man City (1-2) and in the two draws with Juventus, which were very good results. Today`s hosts were brilliant midweek against Juve, drawing 1-1 at home but dominating the Italian champions in goal scoring chances and holding almost 65% possession (Juve had a man sent off in the 55th minute).

Ingolstadt seemed to be on a downhill trend – after a good first couple of months in Bundesliga, they lost 1-0 to both Stuttgart and Hertha. Many were expecting Ingolstadt to start losing week after week, including me, but the feisty Bundesliga newcomers proved their worth by holding Schalke to a 1-1 draw last round. This is a hard working, organized side which relies on compact defense and counter attacks and they deserve the 8th place they are currently standing on.

Team news & lineups:

Herrmann, Stranzl, Schulz and Hahn are out for Gladbach, with Jantschke and Korb questionable. Ingolstadt will not have Soares, Cohen, Roger and probably Lex in the lineup.

Gladbach: Sommer – Korb, Christensen, Dominguez, Wendt – Traore, Dahoud, Xhaka, Johnson – Stindl, Raffael

Ingolstadt: Özcan – Levels, Matip, Hübner, Suttner – Roger – Groß, Morales – Hartmann, Hinterseer, Leckie

Gladbach played Tuesday in the Champions League, not Wednesday and it was a home match, so the negative impact should be minimum coming into this clash. They can not afford to treat this game lightly, they still are in big need of points after the very poor start to the season.

Ingolstadt is a decent side and deserves respect, but if Gladbach plays at the level they played for the last couple of months, I see no way for the visitors to resist. Look for another good performance from the home side, they are in fantastic form, need the points and should not feel European Hangover between two home games, 4 days apart.

Looking at the way Gladbach covered a 1 goal handicap in all of the last 6 Bundesliga matches, it`s safe to expect the same today, even if Ingolstadt has good defensive stats. The visitors, however, had just one match against a team of similar quality to Gladbach – and it was a 0-4 home defeat to Dortmund, so their stats against weaker sides might not be so relevant.

My tip on this one is a Gladbach win by a 1 goal asian handicap, with an 8 unit investment. Prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach – Ingolstadt 2-0.

Pick: Monchengladbach (-1 Asian Handicap)
Odds: 2.23 @ Pinnacle
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 9.84
