Bristol – Sale Sharks

bristol sale sharks betting preview

Sale Sharks will travel too Bristol on Sunday afternoon and will be confident of securing a win against Aviva Premiership’s last placed team.

Premiership newcomers Bristol have failed to win a match this season, losing 2 out of 2 in the Challenge Cup and all six in the league, by an incredible average margin of 23,3 points. They have been useless at home, losing by 22 against Northampton, by 24 against Exeter and by 39 against Saracens. Bristol’s previous Premiership match was a more decent 19-14 loss at the hands of Newcastle Falcons, but that doesn`t say much, as Newcastle is probably the 2nd or 3rd worst team in the league, even if they are currently on the 8th place (out of 12). Bristol also lost 6-22 to Bath last week in the Challenge Cup.

Sale is currently on the 9th place in the Aviva Premiership, but a case can be made that they are playing better than their position. Aside from the 3-30 loss at Bath in the last round, their worst match of the season, Sale Sharks was very competitive in all games played. That was the case last week as well, when Sale lost 5-15 against Touloun in the Champions Cup. An expected loss with a very poor offensive performance, but a good showing in defense.

Team news & lineups:

Bristol will make 4 chances to the lineup that lost against Bath last week in the Challenge Cup. Sale will make two changes to the lineup that lost against Toulouse in the Champions Cup.

Bristol: 15 Jordan Williams, 14, Ryan Edwards, 13 Will Hurrell, 12 Gavin Henson, 11 David Lemi, 10 Shane Geraghty, 9 Will Cliff, 8 Jordan Crane (c), 7 Jon Fisher, 6 Mitch Eadie, 5 Mark Sorenson, 4 James Phillips, 3 Anthony Perenise, 2 Chris Brooker, 1 Kyle Traynor

Sale Sharks: 15 Mike Haley, 14 Byron McGuigan, 13 Will Addison, 12 Johnny Leota, 11 Paolo Odogwu, 10 Sam James, 9 Peter Stringer, 8 Josh Beaumont (c), 7 Magnus Lund, 6 Cameron Neild, 5 Andrei Ostrikov, 4 Bryn Evans, 3 Halani Aulika, 2 Neil Briggs, 1 Ross Harrison

Bristol has been useless this year, they have the worst defense and the worst offense, their game is easy to counter and they really look bad right now. They will win a game at one point and, in all honesty, they won`t have much easier matches than Sale at home, on paper. But this Sale Sharks team looks pretty decent right now and is playing good, physical rugby – also being able to spread the field on the wings against lesser opposition, which will be the case with Bristol.

I expect Bristol to struggle scoring, again, today. Sale Sharks should get the penalties they need to win this and score a couple of tries as well in a rather ugly game of rugby. All in all, Sale is a class above Bristol right now in terms of level of play, they are also the better team and are playing with much more confidence.

The handicap line is at 4 points, which is a big too high for me as I don`t expect many tries, so I will go with lower odds but a safer bet. My tip is Sale Sharks to win. Prediction: Bristol – Sale Sharks 16 – 23.
