Cavaliers – Warriors

Cavs Warriors handicapping 5 December

The Cleveland Cavaliers will host the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night in the NBA.

The Cavs (5-18, 3-8 home) are coming after a rare win, having defeated the Nets in Brooklyn 99-97 a couple of nights ago. Still, that isn`t saying much, as the Cavs remain one of the worst teams in the NBA and wins will be hard to come by this season. With a poor roster, Cleveland has lost 4 of its last 5 games, and wasn`t even competitive in the defeats.

The Warriors (16-9, 5-7 away) have gone though some tough times already this season, with injuries to Curry and Green, as well as the feud between Green and Durant. However, Golden State remains the best team in the league by a mile and they are now on a quest to rack up some wins in a row in order to reclaim the top spot in the Western Conference. The first step was made two nights ago in Atlanta, with the Warriors winning by 17 points.

Team news: JR Smith and Kevin Love are long term absentees for Cleveland, while Dekker, Nwaba and Zizic have missed the last couple of games and will be unavailable tonight as well (Zizic has a chance to play). The Warriors will continue to be without Green, Cousins, Jones and possibly McKinnie, but the latter might return tonight.

The Warriors have lost some ground to the top teams in the West after struggling the last few weeks without Curry, and now they feel like it`s time to get back down to business and start winning games consecutively.

With Steph back they are already a completely different and much better team, but right now they are also taking games seriously and are motivated to win – maybe more than they usually are in the regular season.

Steph Curry suggested this himself, saying after the Monday Hawks game that the Warriors were keen to start strong and put the game to bed as early as possible in order to get back on track and not leave the door open for Atlanta late.

This will probably be the approach ahead this game against the Cavs as well. And as long as the Warriors are locked in and focused, they should have zero problems against a team like Cleveland.

A similar scenario like in the game against the Hawks could be expected here, and the 11 point handicap should be well within Golden State`s grasp. It`s difficult to see this poor Cavs team staying within touching distance with a Warriors side which is motivated and has Steph Curry back – especially since the Cavs are also dealing with injuries and missing some serious rotation pieces.

The result of my analysis can only be a bet on the Warriors to cover the -11 (asian) handicap. Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers – Golden State Warriors 100 – 125.

Pick: Warriors -11
Odds: 1.96 @ Pinnacle
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 7.68
Event date: 5 December
