Colchester – Tottenham

Erik Lamela Tottenham goal

Tottenham seems to be the team with the easiest job in the FA Cup fourth round, with Spurs meeting the last placed team in League One, Colchester.

The hosts gained just 22 points in 28 matches so far in League One, sitting dead last, 7 points away from safety. Colchester’s form is even worse than their standings, if that’s possible. They won just once in the last 9 games, a 2-1 victory over Charlton in the third round of the FA Cup. Additionally, in the last 14 games in all competitions Colchester has 2 wins, 2 draws and 10 losses. They are on the back of 0-3 defeat at Scunthorpe, the 16th placed team in League 1.

Tottenham is having its best season since the departure of Bale. Actually, they might have not been so consistent even when the Welsh star was at White Hart lane. Spurs are 4th in the Premier League and are mounting a legit title challenge, as they are just 5 points behind leaders Leicester. With 3 consecutive wins, all by a form of handicap, Tottenham will surely be confident coming into this clash.

Team news & lineups:

Vertonghen is the only new injury worry for a Tottenham side that will surely rest players, but still field a solid lineup with many first team regulars and probably no youngsters. Colchester might make 2 or 3 changes in the side that lost at Scunthorpe last weekend.

Colchester: Kean – Brindley, Eastman, Wynter, Shorey – Ambrose, Gilbey, Garvan, Moncour – Sordell, Porter

Tottenham: Vorm – Walker, Dier, Wimmer, Davies – Carroll, Bentaleb – Lamela, Onomah, Chadli – Son

FA Cup can be tricky and playing away at lower division sides is often hard, but not when you are in excellent form, while the lower division side is absolute garbage. Spurs are really stable and consistent this season, so there really do nott seem to be any kind of signs or premises for a potential upset here.

Colchester is in total disarray, their defense is absolutely horrid (allows over 2,3 goals per game), while Tottenham will surely want to avoid a potential replay, as they need all the free time they can get in order to succeed in their Top 4 race, or even in their title dreams. With a projected strong lineup, I reckon Spurs should make light work of this Colchester lot and win rather comfortably.

My tip is Tottenham to win and cover the 1,5 handicap. It’s definitely a riskier bet than a -1 or a -1,25 asian handicap win, but I will take the risk at odds over evens, as I feel Spurs will put 3 goals past the home side. Prediction: Colchester – Tottenham 0-3.
