Moutet – Tsitsipas

Corentin Moutet Stefanos Tsitsipas betting preview

Two teenagers will square off in the Brest challenger final on indoor hard, as the surprising Moutet will take on the more accomplished Tsitsipas, who is rated as a 1.40 odds favorite by the bookies.

The 18 year old Moutet (ranked just outside the Top 200) has been on a tear in the past 5 weeks, reaching three consecutive finals at Futures tournaments. He won two of them, and has now recorded the best performance of his career by qualifying to his first challenger final. The youngster is obviously in great form but he had to work really hard this week, winning 3 of his 4 matches in three sets and being very close to losing against Mladen in the semifinals (4-6 7-6 6-4).

Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the biggest prospects on tour and the Greek has already broken into the Top 100 at only 19 years of age. Tsitsipas has played the best tennis of his career over the past couple of months on the post US Open hard court swing, claiming some great results, particularly last week when he reached the Antwerp semifinals (beat Goffin & Karlovic, lost to Schwartzman). Here at Brest Tsitsipas cruised to the final, winning all his matches in straight sets.

This will be the first H2H meeting between the two players. Both like the hard indoor conditions, so the surface shouldn`t make much of a difference.

Both guys are in the form of their life but Tsitsipas is simply at a more advanced stage in his career and his level is much higher than Moutet’s.

While Moutet struggled to reach the final despite having a very easy schedule, Tsitsipas blitzed through the draw and hasn`t lost a single set against some very dangerous opponents. The Greek had a nightmarish draw for a challenger, meeting three Top 100 opponents (An Kuznetsov, Chardy and Copil). He defeated an in form Marius Copil 7-6 7-6 in the semifinals, but he always seemed in control of the match despite the close scoreline, and won both tiebreaks with ease against the big serving Romanian.

Tsitsipas is looking really strong and solid lately, he`s playing some great tennis, challenging (and sometimes defeating) top players like Goffin, Isner, Karlovic, Khachanov, Schwartzman, Gojowczyk and the list can go on. He won the previous 13 matches in which he was rated as a favorite, so he is not prone to upsets right now. He hasn`t fell short of expectations in any of his last 30 matches or so, consistently producing Top 50 level of tennis.

Tsitsipas has been killing it all week long here in Brest, taking care of much better players than Moutet. He`s the better player, he`s in almost perfect form (both long and short term), he`s more experienced and he`s playing better tennis, so it`s hard to see him losing this final.

I rate Tsitsipas as a massive favorite here and to be honest I wouldn`t price him above 1.25, so I think the current odds are great. My tip is Tsitsipas to win, he should do it in straight sets but I prefer to stay on the safe side and bet on the simple win.

Maximum stakes for me on this one, and maybe you will want to take the bet early, as personally I think the odds will drop. Prediction: Corentin Moutet – Stefanos Tsitsipas 5-7 3-6.
