🎾 Daniel Galan-Riveros – Christopher Eubanks ❌

Daniel Galan-Riveros and Christopher Eubanks will square off on Wednesday in the first qualifying round at the US Open.

Galan had a good season so far, and he has been pretty effective on hard courts too. He has a 6-6 record on the surface, playing only in strong events and beating guys like De Minaur and Paul, also losing honorably to players like Opelka or Sonego. Over the last few weeks during the US Open series, Galan reached the second round at Washington (def. Paul, lost to Opelka) and the second qualifying round at the Toronto Masters (def. Bonzi, lost to Schnur).

Eubanks is having a decent year, nothing special, pretty regular for the 216th ranked American. His best performance was winning the Orlando challenger in June (in fact, the only time he passed the 3rd round in any tournament this season). He also had a decent showing last month at the Cary challenger, where he reached the QF’s and got his biggest win of the year against Jack Sock. However, Eubanks is on a three match losing streak (Kozlov twice, Ramanathan).

Galan leads the H2H 2-0. He beat Eubanks twice last year, both times on hard courts. It was a hard fought three setter in February (Newport Beach), and a comfortable 6-4 6-4 win in November (Cary).

I’m liking Galan’s game this season, he is in a good moment of his career and is really knocking at the door of the Top 100. He’s been playing well lately and is showing good stuff on hard courts.

Eubanks had his moments as well in 2021, but not too often, and only at challenger level. Right now he’s not in the best shape with three consecutive losses.

Also, Eubanks is not the kind of guy you expect to make upsets, he has his limits and only won 4 times as an underdog all year. And those were in fact pretty evenly matched clashes, in which he was the underdog, but barely (odds 1.90, 1.95, 2.15 and 2.35). This would probably be his biggest win of the year, competing with the one over Jack Sock last month.

At the end of the day it’s quite simple, we have a better player in Galan, who’s in better form and also has the confidence of having already beaten his opponent twice (pretty recently too). I’m struggling to find arguments in favor of Eubanks.

Having the opportunity to bet on Galan at odds above 1.50 is great. If it were me, I would have priced him around 1.40 here. My tip is Galan to win. Prediction: Daniel Galan – Christopher Eubanks 7-6 6-3.
