Pistons – 76ers

Pistons Sixers betting preview

The Detroit Pistons will face the Philadelphia 76ers at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night.

The Pistons (2-0, 1-0 home) won their first two games of the season, but they were far from impressive. Detroit started with a 2 point win at home against the Nets in a thriller, and followed that with another 2 point win away against the Bulls – a game which the Bulls lost more than the Pistons won, as Chicago blew it late with some poor execution. As such, Detroit claimed two narrow wins against two of the worst teams in the league and they were very lucky to do so.

The Sixers 2-1 (0-1 away) started with a big loss in Boston against rivals Celtics, but managed to bounce back with a big win against the Bulls and a narrow 1 point victory against the Magic. The Sixers, who are fully expected to be a Top 3 seed in the East this year, haven`t quite played at their full potential so far and probably need to improve a bit if they don`t want to lose contact with Toronto and Boston as the season goes on.

Team news: Andre Drummond, one of Detroit`s two best players, is questionable for tonight. The Sixers will continue to miss role players Bayless, Smith and Chandler, but more importantly Ben Simmons is listed as doubtful. Muscala is also doubtful.

Both teams have their second best player questionable ahead of this game, so taking a bet on the moneyline market before more updates would be risky. However, value might be found on the under / over market here.

The line is set at 214.5 points for this game.

While it`s true that the sample size is tiny, fact is that in Detroit`s matches an average of 218.5 points has been scored so far this season, while for the Sixers the average stands at 219.3 points.

More importantly, both teams might miss an elite defender. Drummond and Simmons are some of the best defenders in the league on their positions, while they don`t necessarily excel offensively (although Simmons’ passing does count as effective offense). Even if both end up playing, it`s unlikely they will have the same impact, especially given the nature of their injuries: flue bug (Drummond) and back tightness (Simmons).

Given the way these two teams played and scored this season, and considering the potential absences (or at least decreased effectiveness) of Drummond and Simmons, backing the over makes sense here.

My tip here will be over 214.5 points to be scored, with a recommended investment of 8 units on the bet. Prediction: Detroit Pistons – Philadelphia 76ers 112 – 114.

Pick: over 214,5
