Dinamo Bucharest hosts CSMS Iasi in the 8th round of the Romanian Liga 1. Both sides are pretty good teams for Romania’s level, especially Dinamo, but neither of them is going trough a good moment right now.
After an excellent start to the season, Dinamo’s poor management and thin squad finally caught up with them. Last two rounds were horrible, a 1-1 home draw against Gaz Metan Medias and a 1-2 road loss (albeit totally undeserved) against the worst team in the league, ASA Targu Mures – a team that lost all 6 league matches prior to last week. As of now, Dinamo has allowed at least a goal in 7 of the 8 matches played this season, but also scored in 7 of 8 – not surprising considering that they have a very offensive minded manager.
CSMS Iasi has been a bit disappointing this season. The visitors should be a Top 6 side in this league but are currently sitting on the 8th place after a very poor run of form – 3 draws and 2 losses in the last 5 rounds, scoring just 1 goal in those 5 matches (after scoring 6 in the first two rounds). Nevertheless, Iasi remains a decent side in the Romanian Liga 1, well organized, not easy to break down. Even in this poor run of form they were able to claim a 1-1 rod draw against league leaders Steaua, albeit Steaua was missing a lot of players in that match.

Dinamo has no injuries or suspensions. However, some key players left the club, most of the replacements are not match fit and top scorer Gnohere has been kicked out of the squad. Iasi will miss first choice defenders Voicu and Mihalache, as well as Bole, Martin and top scorer Cristea.

The atmosphere right now is toxic at Dinamo, especially between the fans. The management of the club is disastrous, as half of the team was sold in the off season and replacements came in very late. Dinamo might be the only professional club to sell its best 3 center backs in the same transfer window and they brought in a single replacement. What’s worse, the defense was already in shambles.
I talked a lot about Ioan Andone prior and during the season, saying that Dinamo’s coach does not know how to set up a defense. I was right, as 5 of 8 matches played by Dinamo this season saw over 2.5 goals, with average odds over evens for that kind of bet. What’s more, 7 out of Dinamo’s 8 matches saw both teams scoring.
Despite the above stats I managed to screw thinks up on Betdistrict, tipping the over twice and missing it each time. I will try it again, despite the fact that CSMS Iasi is a defensive team. Last season both meetings ended 0-0, but it`s a totally different situation now with Dinamo’s new manager Ioan Andone.
With the poor form and toxic atmosphere at the club, I`m pretty sure Dinamo won`t be able to keep its second clean sheet of the season – especially as the back line is in a dreadful state after the top 3 center backs were sold. The center back pairing will either be composed by 2 teenagers (who were horrible last week) or by one teenager and an unproven new signing.
CSMS Iasi is a defensive team, but they are a good side and should have no problem finding gaps in Dinamo’s back line. Dinamo allowed 3 goals against the two worst teams in the league this season, who parked the bus in those matches, so I`m not too worried that Iasi is a defensive side, or that they can’t find the net recently. They will miss their top scorer though.
On the other hand, Dinamo can score goals, they found the net in 7 out of 8 games this season and even if their top scorer Gnohere was sent to the “B” team after a recent scandal, they have options to bang in at least one goal at home against a slightly inferior team, which misses two key defenders.
History this season showed that both teams to score in Dinamo’s matches (7/8) is more likely than the over (5/8). Since the difference in odds is not that high, my tip here will be both teams to score. 1-1 is definitely more plausible than 3-0 or 0-3.
Betting on goals in Dinamo’s matches has been and will continue to be profitable this season. I`ll just have to hope I haven`t picked the wrong Dinamo match to tip, again. Prediction: Dinamo Bucharest – CSMS Iasi 2-1.
