The Red Dogs of Dinamo Bucharest will take on Petrolul Ploiesti in the 8th round of the Romanian Liga 1. It should be interesting, as there`s also a small rivalry between the clubs.
Dinamo Bucuresti (2nd place) is one of the two still undefeated teams in Romania, but they were very lucky to escape with a draw last round. The Red Dogs were dominated by CSMS Iasi, who also missed a penalty in the 90th minute. Dinamo doesn`t exactly have top class quality, the squad is good but not spectacular – their main advantage is a good tactical consistency, a solid defense and an excellent coach who really makes the difference, Mircea Rednic (ex Standard Liege, Gent).
Petrolul is slowly going downhill, they are struggling with finances and lost many key players. They still have a good squad, I would say that it is comparable to Dinamo’s, but the results have been poor so far. Petrolul got the first win just last round and they are last in the table (mostly due to a 6 point penalty). They have an unproven coach (actually pretty much proven to be a bad coach) and that could be a problem for them against a well managed opponent.

Dinamo will miss key center back Marc, who is suspended, but otherwise has a healthy squad. Petrolul will have to do without Moussa.

This should be a balanced encounter, the two sides are pretty similar and both put a lot of amphasys on defense and on the tactical side of the game. Excepting Dinamo’s 3-0 win over lowly Voluntari, all of the games of Petrolul and Dinamo this season finished with draws or 1 goal wins / losses. While both teams are prone to draws, I think that Dinamo will have just a bit too much for Petrolul, they are a better organized side and have home court advantage – it should be enough for the Red Dogs to get a winning result.
