Dinamo Bucharest will host Viitorul Constanta in the 16th round of the Romanian Liga 1, with the two teams involved in a a direct fight for a playoff finish.
The hosts have been on a downward spiral over the past couple of months and there aren`t many signs to suggest they could turn it around. Dinamo did have their moments in some of the recent matches, but overall the team is playing extremely poorly for a long time now, despite changing the manager a month ago – and the expected rejuvenation does not seem to be in sight. The International break a few weeks ago was expected to fix things, but it didn`t, and the level of football put on display by Dinamo recently has mostly been hard to watch. Atmosphere in the club is poor and the fans are livid. No more than 1000-2000 people are expected to attend the match.
It will be difficult for the Red Dogs to get out of the slump against a very good team in good form like Viitorul, particularly as this side has always been a matchup nightmare for Dinamo. Since Viitorul got promoted for the first time back in 2012, Dinamo won just 4 out of 15 matches against them and only one of those wins was at home.
Earlier this season Dinamo won 1-0 in Constanta, but that doesn`t hold much relevance. Both teams were playing in Europe at that point and rotated heavily. Viitorul rested more players and lost a close game.
Maybe Dinamo has the better players and holds home court advantage, but Viitorul are the reigning Liga 1 Champions, they are in great form and match up very well against Dinamo. They are also better rested, having sent the youngsters to play midweek in the Cup, while Dinamo used the first team on Thursday.
I expect Viitorul’s skilled offensive players to create problems for Dinamo’s poor defense, as it usually happens when these two sides meet.
Taking all factors into account, I think it`s hard for anybody to make a case for Dinamo being a favorite in this clash. It`s more like a 50-50 match, but I actually think Viitorul has the first chance as per my analysis, and I wouldn`t be surprised if they end up winning the game.
