Dinamo – Olympiakos

Dinamo Zagreb fans Champions League

Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos will take the court in a match that could prove crucial in deciding the second place in Group F of the Champions League, as Arsenal is, at the moment, apparently out of the race.

Zagreb’s famous Champions League struggles seem to be over this year. Despite losing 5-0 in Munich last round, Dinamo’s 2-1 win over Arsenal was a historic result and looking at the form of the hosts, more similar results might come. The loss against Bayern was the only one for Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 and the only one in the last 48 matches in all competitions! Despite Croatia being a weak league, Zagreb’s record is very impressive (many matches were in Europe) and it seems that this is the best team in decades for the visitors.

Olympiakos’ situation is not much different than Zagreb’s. The visitors are killing it in Greece, beat Arsenal 3-2 at Emirates and lost 0-3 to Bayern at home – their only loss in 17 matches in all competitions. Leaving the Bayern clash aside, this season Olympiakos has 8 wins in 8 matches, scoring at least twice in all of those wins. Unfortunately for Oly they might not be at full strength today.

Team news & lineups:

While Dinamo Zagreb has a full squad to choose from, Olympiakos has serious problems with injuries. Bouchalakis and Maniatis are definitely out, but Cambiasso, Da Costa, Dominguez and Pardo are highly doubtful. Particularly Cambiasso is expected to miss and we saw how important he is for Olympiakos in the win against Arsenal.

Dinamo Zagreb: Eduardo – Pinto, Taravel, Sigali, Pivaric – Antolic, Ademi, Machado – Soudani, Henriquez, Fernandes

Olympiakos: Roberto – Elabdellaoui, Siovas, Botia, Salino – Kasami, Milivojevic – Seba, Dominguez, Pardo – Ideye

This is set to be a very tight match, with both teams in fine form and desperate for a result. Olympiakos is more talented obviously, but Dinamo’s home court advantage and health status might just tip the balance in their favor.

My eyes are on the draw here, surely the most likely result in such an evenly matched clash, with so much at stake. However, Dinamo Zagreb will benefit from playing at home and I would not be shocked if they edge out a win agianst a Cambiasso – less Olympiakos. My tip is a Draw on the Olympiakos no bet market – meaning the bet is won with a draw and we get our money back if Dinamo Zagreb wins. Prediction: Dinamo Zagreb – Olympiakos 1-1.
