Local favorite Dominic Thiem will take on Philipp Kohlscheiber in the ATP Kitzbuhel semifinals.
Thiem played excellent tennis last week in Gstaad and won the tournament in a quick final with David Goffin. It was a busy week for Thiem, but the youngster didn`t want to take a break and miss his home tournament in Kitzbuhel. Dominic had a bye in the first round but looked a bit drained and tired in the two matches he played. He was 1-4 down in the third set with Haider Maurer and he would have lost that if not for a classic Haider Maurer choke. His shots often lacked power, he was breathing heavily, not looking good overall. In the quarterfinals he was leading Albert Montanes 7-6 3-2 before the Spaniard retired.
With a few exceptions, particularly that fantastic Munich final against Andy Murray, Kohlschreiber didn`t have the best season so far – but he looked sharp this week. A slow start with Struff, but Kohli followed with a demolishing of Giraldo and a strong two set victory against Fognini. Good tennis from the German, not too many errors and when he plays like this, he`s always extremely dangerous.

The Head 2 Head is tied at 0-0, the two players never met before on tour. Both like clay and have similar styles of play, so there`s not really anything about the matchup analysis that can be relevant.
Kohlschreiber played better this week and he is more fresh than Thiem, so I believe that he will win this. However, Thiem can`t be counted out, he is on a very good run, he`s at home and will surely give everything after reaching the point of the semifinals. Despite looking tired this week, he`s young and probably has unseen energy reserves.
I can see a tight game in the first two sets, but in the end Kohlschreiber will have more in the tank in the final set. He surely won`t allow an exhausted Thiem (if it will be the case) back into the match at that point, like Haider Maurer did. I`ll go with set betting and value here – my tip is Kohlschreiber to win 2-1. Prediction: Dominic Thiem – Phillipp Kohlschreiber 5-7 6-4 3-6.

I really thought I will get lucky once for a change, but unfortunately Thiem missed that set point on serve. The way the game looked, it would have been very likely for Kohlschreiber to win the 3rd.
