Eibar – Celta Vigo

Iago Aspas Celta Vigo goal

Eibar will host Celta Vigo in the Primera Division, after an incredible performance from Celta, winning 4-1 against Barcelona and creating many other chances to score.

But there is an explanation for that game. First of all Barcelona entered the game too relaxed. Another argument is the home field in Vigo, which is from my knowledge the biggest playing field in Spain, if not in Europe. So there are very big spaces, huge spaces to be exact and Barca’s game with short passes was not very well suited for it. At least 2 goals came after situations where the Celta players used the big spaces in an intelligent way.

Now they will play in Ipurua, visiting SD Eibar, in a game where everything will be different. The opponent is a no-name, the field is one of the smallest in Spain and so i expect a very difficult game for them. Celta has some nice individualities, like Iago Aspas (who surprsised me), Orellana and of course Nolito. Offense is Celta’s strength. But their defense is a bad joke. They concede way too many goals. The biggest proof for this is that a few matches ago Celta did not manage to keep a 3-1 lead, at home, vs Las Palmas, which was playing in 10 men.

Eibar has a very good organization, and two very good players, Borja Baston, who scored a lot of goals in Segunda and now is proving his worth here, and Saul Berjon, a very skillful AM. The rest of the players are typical basque, promoting fighting spirit and playing 2 times better at home, than away.

I consider Eibar to be able to get at least a draw with home court advantage, as Celta Vigo will also suffer from a hangover effect after the miracle vs Barcelona, for sure. I recommend to pick hosts Eibar with a +0.5 handicap. Good luck!
