Espanyol – Celta Vigo

Espanyol Celta Vigo La Liga betting preview

The last match of the fourth round in the Primera Division will see Espanyol hosting Celta Vigo, with neither side starting the season well.

Espanyol claimed just one point in the first three rounds. It was a solid 1-1 draw in the opening round against Sevilla, but Espanyol failed to win a point or score a goal in the next two matches, losing 0-1 at Leganes and 0-5 at Nou Camp against rivals FC Barcelona. Despite not making big investments in the Summer, the hosts still expect a midtable finish in La Liga, so they will be keen to claim points in this match with Celta.

The visitors started with two defeats against Real Sociedad and Betis, before finally claiming their first points last round with a 1-0 victory over Alaves. It was a good win for Celta Vigo, but they have clearly fallen short of the expectations in these first three rounds, especially after a net spend of well over 10M Euros in the off season.

Team news & lineups:

Duarte and Lopez are out for Espanyol, while Celta Vigo doesn`t have any definite absentees, but might miss Radoja and Guidetti.

Espanyol: Lopez – Sanchez, Lopez, Hermoso, Martin – Jurado, Darder, Fuego, Piatti – Baptistao, Moreno

Celta Vigo: Alvarez – Mallo, Cabral, Fontas, Jonny – Sanchez, Lobotka, Wass – Sisto, Aspas, Gomez

Neither team has been impressive to start the season, and it`s hard to see any of these two sides being favorite over the other in this clash. Celta might be better, but playing away will nullify any small advantage they have in terms of quality.

I can see a draw happening here, just like it did in two of the last three H2H meetings. I think it`s hard to argue against the fact that the draw seems like the most plausible result, despite the odds not reflecting that.

A fair case can also be made that both teams would be satisfied with a tied result, as they need points after a poor start to the season, and they definitely don`t want to lose.

All in all I think the draw is worth a try here with low stakes, and the odds make me believe it`s a good investment. Prediction: Espanyol – Celta Vigo 1-1.
