FCSB – Dinamo Buc

FCSB Dinamo Bucharest betting preview

FC FCSB and Dinamo Bucharest will square off in the 12th Round of the Romanian Liga 1, with the match being dubbed as a derby clash even though FCSB were legally stripped of their former Steaua Bucharest identity.

It has been a mixed season for FCSB so far, with domestic results being rather poor (FCSB is 3rd in the standings, 4 points behind leaders CFR), but with European results being a breath of fresh air. FCSB knocked out Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League qualies, got humiliated by Sporting Lisbon next, but defeated Plzen again (3-0) in the Europa League group stages opener. The hosts are on the back of a 1-1 draw on the road against CFR Cluj just 3 days ago, a match in which both teams were satisfied with a draw.

Dinamo Bucharest will approach this match with a new manager, Vasile Miriuta, not an impressive hiring going by his resume. The managerial change was made after Cosmin Contra was appointed as Romania boss last week, despite having a very poor beginning of the season with Dinamo. The visitors started well but got worse and worse as time went on, and their recent performances were borderline horrible. They lost 1-2 at home to ACS Poli two rounds ago and barely held on to a 2-2 draw at Craiova last weekend. The Red Dogs are 7th in the standings, but have one less game played after their midweek clash with Chiajna was postponed.

Team news & lineups:

Key defensive anchor man Pintilie is the only absentee for FCSB, but the hosts might also rotate a couple of players as they are coming after a match just three days ago, and also need to play in the Europa League on Thursday. Dinamo will miss backup center back Maric.

FC FCSB: Nita – Benzar, Balasa, Planic, Momcilovic – Nedelcu, Popescu – Golofca, Budescu, Coman – Alibec

Dinamo Bucharest: Penedo – Romera, Nedelcearu, Katsikas, Filip – Anton, Mahlangu – Hanca, Nascimento, Salomao – Nemec

Recent H2H meetings between FCSB and Dinamo have all been high scoring. The last 9 direct matches ended with both teams scoring, and 6 of them (including the last 4) saw over 2.5 goals being scored. Also, the number of goals wasn`t a fluke, as all matches were pretty open and often played on counters. I reckon there`s a good possibility we will see a similar style of play and number of goals this time around.

Dinamo Bucharest has an atrocious defense player for player, all defenders are poor and error prone, and every team in the league managed to put their back line under big pressure so far this season. Even a defensive minded coach like their former manager couldn`t make this defensive setup work, with Dinamo allowing 10 goals in 10 rounds, mostly playing dirt poor clubs. Now, with additional chaos after the managerial change and with Miriuta being an offensive minded coach, chances are Dinamo’s defense can`t look good in this match.

On the other hand FCSB’s weak spot is also their defense. The hosts are potent offensively, but they are shaky at the back and conceded a goal in 8 of their 11 Liga 1 matches this season – which is a horrible stat considering the fact that they are supposed to be several classes above most teams in the league.

FCSB should punish the poor Dinamo Bucharest defense according to any logic you use, while the visitors also have the offensive quality to bang in a goal, particularly as they are the fresher side after having their midweek game postponed.

A bet on over 2.5 goals has higher odds than one on both teams to score, but it also holds more risks. I reckon a 1-1 result is more likely than 3-0 for either side, so that`s why my tip will be both teams to score. Prediction: FCSB – Dinamo Bucharest 2-1.
