Fiji – Uruguay

Nemani Nadolo Fiji RWC try

Fiji will end up their Rugby World Cup campaign against Uruguay and the Pacific side will be desperate to claim a win, while the South Americans will find themselves in familiar territory, fighting to limit the score, with no chance for a victory.

Fiji has surely been a paradox in this RWC. They haven`t been able to win a single point in the first three matches, but their level of play was top class. The current Pacific champions are certainly a team to be reckoned with but they had bad luck to be drawn in the group of death. Fiji lost 11-35 to England (staying competitive until the last 10 minutes), 13-28 to Australia and 13-23 to Wales (without Nadaolo and Matawalu). Fiji played great, offensive and entertaining rugby, pushed each of the three giants to their limits (covered the handicap in all 3 games) and will now be desperate to leave the World Cup with a convincing, emphatic win.

Semi-amateur Uruguay is definitely the worst team in the Rugby World Cup, pretty much the only one that can lose consistently by 50-60 points. The South Americans started with a 9-54 loss to Wales and got blown out 3-65 by Australia in the most one sided match of the tournament so far. Obviously Uruguay will try to avoid another drubbing against Fiji, who is not Australia or Wales, but it won`t be easy against a team that will be more motivated than the two giants were.

Team news & lineups:

Fiji will only make 5 changes to the team that lost to Wales. Superstar Nemani Nadolo is back after suspension, but Matawalu is still out. Uruguay will make 6 changes to the lineup that was hammered by Australia.

Fiji: 15 Kini Murimurivalu, 14 Asaeli Tikoirotuma, 13 Vereniki Goneva, 12 Lepani Botia, 11 Nemani Nadolo, 10 Ben Volavola, 9 Nemia Kenatale, 8 Sakiusa Matadigo, 7 Akapusi Qera (c), 6 Dominiko Waqaniburotu, 5 Leone Nakarawa, 4 Apisalome Ratuniyarawa, 3 Leroy Atalifo, 2 Sunia Koto, 1 Campese Ma’afu.

Uruguay: 15 Gaston Mieres, 14 Santiago Gibernau, 13 Joaquin Prada, 12 Andres Vilaseca, 11 Rodrigo Silva, 10 Alejo Duran, 9 Agustin Ormaechea, 8 Alejandro Nieto, 7 Matias Beer, 6 Juan Manuel Gaminara, 5 Jorge Zerbino, 4 Santiago Vilaseca (c), 3 Mario Sagario, 2 Carlos Arboleya, 1 Alejo Corral.

I fully expect Fiji to record a big win here. They will be extremely focused to get a big win after competing hard but losing in the first three matches against Tier 1 nations. Their level of play is great and they are an all out attacking side, that will keep going for tries in this one. With their offensive gameplan and motivation to score as many as possible, Fiji looks set to add to Uruguay’s misery – especially with the force of nature that is Nemani Nadolo coming back in the side, fresh and rested.

Back Fiji to end the World Cup on a high, they deserve it and have the weapons to do it. The handicap line is pretty large, but I expect Fiji to cover it and claim a 40+ point win. My tip is a Fiji win by more 35,5 points. Prediction: Fiji – Uruguay 51 – 11.
