Fiorentina – AS Roma

Fiorentina AS Roma betting previewAll Italian duel tonight in the Europa League, with Fiorentina taking on AS Roma in what should be a very tight two legged tie.

Fiorentina’s 0-4 defeat to Lazio over the weekend came as a real shock considering the fact that “La Viola” was on a 13 match undefeated run and on the back of three successive wins over Tottenham, Inter and Juventus. Obviously these three matches took a lot from Fiorentina and they just could not do it anymore physically, also the 4-0 defeat was a little harsh.

Roma’s fall from grace was painful to watch this year, they lost all chances for winning the title and have virtually became the king of draws – no less than 11 in this Serie A season and 11 in the last 15 games in all competitions, including 5 in the last 6. Rudi`s Garcia team is build in such a way that when top form does not exist, the players mantain their invincibility, but can not find ways to finish off opponents. Roma was dangerously close of being knocked out by Feyenoord in the previous round but managed a 2-1 win away after a 1-1 draw at home.

Team news & lineups:

Fiorentina will be without Bernardeschi, Rossi, Babacar and probably Gomez and Tatarusanu as well. Roma is healthier, the only issues for Rudi Garcia’s lineup being the long term injuries to Castan and Ibarbo. Additionally, the french manager rested players over the weekend, so the visitors will be fresh for this one.

Fiorentina: Neto – Richards, Basanta, Savic, Alonso – Fernandez, Pizarro, Badelj – Salah, Joaquin – Gomez

AS Roma: De Sanctis – Cole, Manolas, Yanga-Mbiwa, Torosidis – De Rossi, Keita, Pjanic – Gervinho, Ljajic, Totti

I don`t see Fiorentina winning this, it has been a brutal run of matches for them and it`s hard to see them recovering so fast after the Lazio disaster to perform at their best in yet another huge match. Roma is much fresher, they also rested players in the weekend so they got a good chance of getting ahead in the tie. On the other hand, one must really be brave to take Roma to beat anybody right now, let alone Fiorentina on the road.

It really looks like a game destined to end undecided, both managers will advocate caution, the teams know eachother to perfection, so my tip is the draw. I was thinking about a draw at half time as well, but the better value is on the bet at full time – I see it having roughly the same chances to occur and of course the odds are much better. It has to be said that Roma’s only loss in 2015 came against Fiorentina, but there were other circumstances back than. Prediction: Fiorentina – Roma 1-1.
