Fiorentina – Sevilla

With qualification all but decided after Sevilla’s 3-0 first leg win, Fiorentina will need a perfect performance if they want to even hope of going trough.

Fiorentina lost 3 of the last 5 games in all competition and it was the defense that betrayed them, as today’s hosts allowed no less than 12 goals in this timespan. Fiorentina will feel disappointed after the first leg result, as they didn’t play so bad and clearly deserved to score at least once, but they had their fair share of bad luck and now face an impossible task. La Viola is coming after a 3-2 win at Empoli, keeping their hopes to qualify for Europe intact.

Sevilla is on the back of a 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo – a normal result, as Celta is such a strong team at home, but it basically meant that Sevilla will not play Champions League football next year. This adds even more fire to their Europa League campaign, as winning the competition is now Sevilla’s only chance to play in the UCL. The spanish side is in very good form, with their sole loss in the previous 18 games (!!) coming at the hands of Real Madrid. Sevilla scored at least two goals in 15 of these last 18 matches.

Richards, Babacar, Vargas and Rossi are out for the home side. Sevilla won’t be able to count on Beto and Pareja.

The first leg was an entertaining affair with plenty of goal scoring chances. Looking at the style of football the two teams play, their quality up front and the circumstances of the match, this should be another overish encounter – Fiorentina has nothing to lose and will approach the clash in their usual offensive manner, maybe even more so than usual. They should be able to find the net a couple of times this time around, while Sevilla will have plenty of spaces to exploit. Fiorentina does miss a few attacking players, but I don’t see it as a big problem, looking at the lineup they are set to field.

I`m going with a bet on the under over market here and my tip is over 2,5 goals to be scored. The odds aren’t the best, but they are fair and just good enough to attack with a reasonably high stake. Prediction: Fiorentina – Sevilla 2-2.
