Germany – Algeria

Germany Algeria betting previewGermany takes on the surprise package of Algeria in the Round 16, hoping to set up a quarterfinal clash with France or Nigeria.

I liked the way Germany presented itself in this competition, some good, balanced football against solid opposition. I won`t hide the fact that I think Germany has what it takes to win the World Cup, so I can see them in with a very big chance against Algeria if they keep up their level of football. The Panzers have the quality, the form, the discipline and the cohesiveness to go all the way and to avoid upsets against lesser opposition.

Algeria is a pretty good team, has a couple of good players and can score goals. However, their defense is not too solid and they barely got out of a mediocre group with Belgium, Russia and South Korea, so against Germany they will face by far their toughest test so far. Note that Algeria conceded at least a goal in the last 5 games, even against teams like Armenia, Romania or South Korea.

Team news & lineups

Joachim Low has a full squad at his disposal, while Algeria might miss Bougherra, he will face a late fitness test.

Germany: Neuer – Boateng, Mertesacker, Hummels, Howedes – Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos – Ozil, Muller, Gotze

Algeria: Mbolhi – Mandi, Bougherra, Halliche, Mesbah – Medjani, Bentaleb – Feghouli, Brahimi, Djabou – Slimani

I just think Germany has too much quality for Algeria and the blistering attacking form of the Panzerz should get them a couple of goals against a shaky Algerian defense. The Africans are a decent team but we`re at a different level here and a top team in top form like Germany is just too strong, especially with that fast paced offense of the Mannschaft. No surprises in store for this one, expect Germany to win comfortably. My tip is Germany to win with a 1,5 goal handicap and it should be a safe bet. I have a weird feeling that I didn’t come up with the best analysis for a 9 unit tip, but it`s a simple pick really, not much else to say. Over 2,5 goals could also work, but at odds of 1.60 I`m not sure it`s worth it. Prediction: Germany – Algeria 4-1.

Pick: Germany (-1,5)

  1. Injury update.
I think that Germany will have some problems vs Algeria
First of all, Hummels is not sure to play, rated 50-50 from what I read.
Secondly, the germans have no proper full-backs. Howedes and Boateng are normal center backs.
This improvisation might have worked vs the Portughese, and the Americans, who were only concentrating on defending, but against Feghouli and Slimani it might not work.
Algeria has a spark, something about them just makes me not feel confident about betting against them.
    I see a 2-0, or a 2-1. Good Luck!
