Gent – Lyon

Hatem Elhamed Gent Champions League

Belgium champions K.A.A Gent will return to the Uefa Champions League after 15 long years, hosting French side Olympique Lyon in the opening match of Group H.

They are an interesting team and made a huge huge surprise by winning the title in Belgium. Club Brugge lost points in the end of the season, but they had excuses, because they reached the QF of the Europa League and also the final of the Belgian Cup. Anderlecht and Standard were just a mess. Gent is perceived as a very well organized team, maybe the best organized team in Belgium, which is kind of scary, because i thought Club Brugge were well organized too. Gent have zero experience at this level, they don’t even have Europa League experience. Ok, that should be enough about them.

Lyon is in a very “easy” group. The other 2 teams are Valencia and Zenit. Valencia is not uber strong, they struggled big time in the Champions League playoffs with Monaco (who sold half the team) and Zenit is also a mess this season, struggling to respect the new policy on fielding a certain number of Russian players. As you know Zenit has a lot of foreigners, and this creates issues because they can not all be starters.

Lyon will miss Fekir, one of their best players, and long term injuries Fofana and Grenier. They, however, have a very powerful team and also a good coach, at least this is what I think about them. Beauvue and Valbuena are brilliant transfers and keeping hold of Lacazette was a strong proof that they mean business.

I think Lyon has what it takes to get the very important three points and a tip on Lyon -0.25 asian handicap is the right move. Odds of 1.96 given for this bet at Pinnacle are very good in my opinion. Good luck!

Pick: Lyon (-0,25 Asian Handicap)
