Germany – Cameroon

Germany hosts Cameroon at Borussia Park in Mönchengladbach, Sunday 1 June. Both teams have qualified to Brazil and this international friendly is in preparation for the World Cup.

Germany is one of the favorites for the World Cup and they were one of the best teams in Europe in qualifications winning 9 games, drawing one and losing zero! After the qualies Germany played 3 very good friendlies against strong teams like Italy (1-1), England (1-0) and Chile (1-0), but the last game for the Mannschaft was just a 0-0 draw at home vs. Poland about 3 weeks ago. Still the result was not so disappointing, because Germany played with the 2nd unit and still held 60 possession and created much more chances to score. For sure Germany will not want to repeat a draw at home and will go strong in front of their fans today. The lineup will still not be the best one, but much better than in the Poland game and with many regulars.

Cameroon has a very good team, if you look at some of the names in their squad you remain impressed (Eto’o, Mbia, Song, Assou-Ekoto and so on). But like Germany, Cameroon will not use the best possible lineup today, Eto’o will probably miss. Still, it will not be a reserve lineup either. Unfortunately for Cameroon they are not playing as good as they should be with these names. The last 3 friendlies were a 5-1 defeat to Portugal, a 2-0 win with Macedonia and most recently a 1-2 defeat to Paraguay three days ago in a poor performance against a team not qualified to the World Cup and that is playing rubbish lately.

Cameroon lineup: Itandje – Nyom, Nkolou, Matip, Bong – Song, Mbia – Olinga, Moukandjo, Choupo-Moting – Idrissou

Germany will be eager to start the World Cup preparations with a win at home, especially after that draw against Poland. Cameroon will probably use the same lineup like against Paraguay (2-3 changes, Mbia might come in) and they looked really bad in that game. Germany is known for the ability to cover handicaps, especially at home, and I think they will make light work of an out of sync Cameroon side. My tip will be a Germany win with -1,5 handicap.
