Germany – Sweden

Germany Sweden World Cup betting preview

Germany will attempt to bounce back after their surprising defeat against Mexico, while Sweden will hope to add on the 3 points they claimed so far in Group F.

Some are linking Germany`s defeat against Mexico to their rather poor results in the pre – World Cup warm up games, but there`s no reason to consider this a valid point. Germany didn`t look that bad and wasn`t necessarily poor in the loss to Mexico, as they had chances and shot over 20 times towards goal and almost 10 times on goal. They played well in patches, but Mexico was indeed very good and had the gameplan and the players to trouble Die Mannschaft.

Sweden got a very important 1-0 win over South Korea in their World Cup opener. It was a classic performance from Sweden, which defended very well and managed to find the net from a penalty. The team will definitely love a point here against Germany and is expected to rely yet again on its defense, by far Sweden’s strongest quality.

Team news & lineups:

Germany is at full strength, but is expected to make a couple of changes. Khedira could be dropped and there`s pressure to drop Ozil as well, although Joachim Low could give the Arsenal star one final chance.

Sweden has been struck by some really bad news, with an illness sweeping though the squad. Helander, Jansson and Rohden did not travel to Sochi with the squad. They will travel on game day, but are not expected to play. Thelin is out with injury, while Lindelof is doubtful, but expected to start.

Germany: Neuer – Kimmich, Hummels, Boateng, Hector – Gundogan, Kroos – Muller, Ozil, Draxler – Werner

Sweden: Olsen – Lustig, Lindelof, Granqvist, Augustinsson – Claesson, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg – Toivonen, Berg

Germany was put under pressure by Mexico’s speed and direct style of play, but Sweden does not pose a similar threat – in fact, it`s quite the opposite. The Swedes don`t have much pace and their offense is not very good, so Germany should not have the same problems they had against Mexico.

The Germans obviously need the three points here and they look like they should be able to get them. While they obviously have not been at their best against Mexico, they showed patches of good play. They were just a bit unlucky, and met a very good opponent which had the perfect style of play to put them on the back foot. Die Mannschaft should be ok in this group, and they still look like one of the favorites for the title. They don`t seem to be in the same situation as teams like Argentina or France, which are simply playing very poorly.

With Germany needing to win and Sweden not posing much of a matchup problem (plus their selection problems, although they don`t miss undisputed starters), look for Joachim Low’s side to get back on track with a solid win here. My tip is Germany to win straight up as the odds are playable and I don`t want to get greedy, but a more ambitious punter could very well try the -1 asian handicap for a higher price. Prediction: Germany – Sweden 2-0.

  1. Poor Sweden. Germany will come out laser focused. I could see this be 4-0 Germany
