Warriors – Pelicans

Warriors Pelicans handicapping

The Golden State Warriors will take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night in the NBA.

The Warriors (30-14, 17-6 home) will play their second game in two nights, after claiming a spectacular 142-111 victory in Denver last night – a result which saw the Warriors leapfrog the Nuggets for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Warriors have been great so far in January, which has always been one of their best months. They have 5 wins in a row and are starting to put their foot on the gas as the playoffs get closet.

The Pelicans (21-23, 6-17 away) are coming into this game in good form, having won 4 of their last 5 games, playing good basketball. However, it is still a very disappointing season for the Pels, who are not even in the playoff discussion currently in the West. Their woeful road record doesn`t give them much reason for optimism coming into this match.

Team news: The Warriors will continue to miss Cousins and Jones. The Pelicans have no injuries and will be at full strength.

The bookies opened with odds as high as 1.40 for a straight Golden State win, and those odds make zero sense. In fact, an argument could be made that even odds of 1.20 may be a bit too high for the hosts here.

The reason for the high price is that the Warriors played last night in Denver and are back to back, but that should not have that much of an impact here, considering the difference in quality between the two teams.

While the flight from Denver to home has indeed been very long (almost 1000 miles), fact is that the Warriors won last night`s game easily. Nobody played more than 31 minutes. Klay Thompson only played 25. The players should be fresh here, and they play at home (it`s always more dangerous when the second leg of a back to back is on the road).

The Warriors should win, and they should be bigger favorites. Many people will probably say that odds for the straight home win are too low to bet on, and I myself almost never bet on odds below 1.40. but I actually find a lot of value in this 1.35 price. It is currently dropping, and will probably drop even more.

My tip will be Golden State Warriors to win straight up. Maybe the back to back factor will help the Pelicans to make this a game and maybe cover the spread, but unless something out of the ordinary happens. the Warriors should win this. Prediction: Golden State Warriors – New Orleans Pelicans 122 – 112.
