Warriors – Jazz

The banged up Golden State Warriors will face the red hot Utah Jazz on Sunday night in the NBA.

The Warriors (54-18, 28-8 home) have been decimated by injuries lately, and have suffered another shock on Saturday after Steph Curry, in his first game back, re-injured himself. He will now likely miss not only the rest of the regular season, but also possibly the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors haven`t played very well lately with all the injuries, losing 4 of their last 7 games and only beating poor teams like the Suns, the Lakers and the Hawks.

Utah Jazz (41-32, 17-20 away) has been the hottest team in the NBA over the last couple of months, turning what seemed to be a lost season into one in which they`ll likely make the playoffs. The Jazz have won 22 of their last 26 matches (!!!) and even if they suffered two narrow losses in their last three games, they continue to be one of the most in form teams in the league. The Jazz are 8th right now in the West, but can finish as high as 3rd and as low as 10th.

Team news: Curry and Durant will be out for the Warriors. Casspi, Thompson and Green will try to return from their injuries, but are listed as doubtful. Out of Thompson and Green, Green has a better chance of playing.

The Warriors right now are virtually sure to end the regular season as the second seed in the West, and their No.1 objective is to get their main 4 guys (Curry, Durant, Thompson, Green) ready for the playoffs. Wins and losses really don`t matter to them at this point.

The Jazz will smell blood here, and will look to continue their exceptional run of form against this banged up and unmotivated Golden State side.

If Thompson and Green will play, the Warriors will be able to field a decent side and will be dangerous at home. But they will still be far away from their usual selves, considering they won`t have their two superstars, Durant and particularly Curry. They will not be the same team. You have to feel a healthy, in form and motivated Utah will have the first chance.

If Klay or / and Green don`t play, the Warriors will be in all sorts of trouble, as they have usually been in the last couple of weeks, and odds on the Jazz will plummet (they are already dropping). Considering all the injuries suffered by the Warriors recently, it looks rather unlikely for both Klay and Green to be forced into action for a game that is meaningless from Golden State’s point of view.
