Granada – Celta Vigo

Granada Celta Vigo betting previewGranada will host Celta Vigo in a mid-table La Liga clash. A very tight encounter on paper, this could be settled by the smallest of margins.

After a string of bad form, Granada stepped it up a little bit lately as the hosts got 4 points in 2 games before losing honorably 2-0 at Santiago Bernabeu last round against Real Madrid. Those 2 goals were actually the only ones Granada conceded in the last three matches. Just like last season, Granada gets its strength from their excellent back line, the 27 goals conceded in 21 rounds representing a very good number for a mid-table team. On the other hand Granada`s offensive efforts are simply futile, as the team scores less than 1 goal per game and has the third worst offense in the league (19 goals). Currently on 10th place, the hosts are relatively safe from relegation (5 points ahead and many teams behind), but that`s pretty much all they can achieve this season.

Celta Vigo is on the 13th place and they would love to get some points here in order to put some distance between them and the relegation places (currently 3 points). The visitors have been in good form lately, winning 2 of their last 3 La Liga matches, but both were at home. The last away game however was not bad either, a narrow 1-0 defeat to a strong Espanyol side. Celta played some nice, attractive football this season, scoring 27 goals in 21 matches, but also conceding a staggering 34.

Team news & lineups

Granada will miss Ighalo and Riki for this game, while Campos, Garcia and Recio are all doubtful. Celta Vigo will not be able to count on Bermejo. Samuel and Oubina will face fitness tests prior to the game.

Granada: Roberto – Nyom, Murillo, Mainz, Angulo – Recio, Iturra, Rico – Pereira, El-Arabi, Piti

Celta Vigo: Yoel – Malo, Fontas, Costas, Jonny – Fernandez, Oubina, Rafinha – Krohn-Dehli, Charles, Orellana

Under 2,5 goals looks like the best bet on this one. Celta Vigo surely is not the most defensive team out there, but Granada is and at home, in a tight game, the hosts should be able to impose their own tempo and defensive mentality. Plus, it`s not like Celta Vigo is an all out attack kind of team. Whoever wins this would get a huge boost in the fight against relegation, but the main objective for both sides will be, most probably, not to lose against a rival – a draw would suit both teams, especially given the fact that neither is in a must-win situation. Expect a risk-free approach from both sides, with Granada playing their usual brand of defensive football and Celta accepting it, trying not to lose. A draw surely looks possible here, but my pick is under 2,5 goals. Earlier this season the meeting between the two finished 1-1, but this time it might even end in a total boredom with no goals, so my correct score prediction would have to be Granada – Celta Vigo 0-0.
