Pella – Bhambri

Pella Bhambri betting preview

Guido Pella and Yuki Bhambri will square off in the quarterfinals at the ATP event in Washington, with the match set to be played around Thursday around midnight (European time).

Pella entered the tournament in poor form, on the back of 3 consecutive losses, and having played just one hard court match since March (losing last week in Atlanta to Gojowczyk). Still, he managed to claim two solid wins in the first rounds against Ramanathan (2-0) and Mischa Zverev (2-1). Pella was in danger of losing against Zverev, but he eventually recorded a deserved 6-7 7-6 6-3 victory.

Bhambri had an exceptional year for his standards, climbing almost 300 positions in the rankings since the start of the year – as he had fallen out of the Top 400 after a 6 month injury break last season. The Indian entered Washington in decent form and already won 3 matches here, having also played qualifications. Bhambri defeated Broady (2-0) and Kozlov (1-0 ret.), before claiming one of the biggest wins of his career against Monfils in the first round (6-3 4-6 7-5).

This will be the first meeting between the two players. The hard courts at Washington will represent an advantage for Bhambri, as he is a natural on this surface and also has a fantastic 28-9 win loss record this year (all levels). Pella, while he is capable on hard, is much more suited for clay.

Pella is the more accomplished player between the two, but the difference in terms of quality isn`t that big at all. Bhambri on the other hand is having a better year and he`s a much more natural hard court player than his opponent.

Looking at the way the two players performed this week and also at all the other facts, it seems pretty hard to separate the two and chances are this will be a tight clash.

I reckon Bhambri is the real favorite and there`s value in a bet on him, but I feel much more confident with betting the over – as the line seems really low at just 22 or 22.5 games. I can see a three setter here, but the line can also be covered in 2 sets.

My tip on this encounter is over 22 games to be played. The 22 games line is available at plenty of bookies, but if you can`t find it, over 22.5 is recommended as well, preferably with slightly lower stakes. Prediction: Guido Pella – Yuki Bhambri 4-6 6-3 5-7.

Pick: over 22 games
