Garcia-Lopez – Anderson

Garcia Lopez Anderson betting previewGuillermo Garcia-Lopez and Kevin Anderson will square off in one of the quarterfinals at ATP Queens, London.

Garcia-Lopez had a great year so far, particularly on clay, but he didn`t start very well on grass, losing to Copil in the first round at Hertogenbosch. However, that seems to have been an accident, as Garcia-Lopez played very well this week at Queens – defeating Andujar and Dolgopolov, The Spaniard is obviously more of a clay court player, but he has a winning record on grass and can play very good tennis on the green surface.

Anderson recorded a shock 7-6 7-6 win over Wawrinka in the second round, after previously saving match point against Hewitt in the first. It was a surprising result given Wawrinka’s form and Anderson’s not so good recent results, but the South African played well and deserved the victory – even though Stan did not play his best tennis that day. Anderson will look to build on that result and return to form on a surface that suits his playing style, with his big serve.

The Head 2 Head is 2-1 for Anderson (0-0 on grass), but Garcia-Lopez won the previous meeting – this year at Estoril. Additionally, Garcia-Lopez also defeated Anderson in an exhibition on grass last season, which would tie the Head 2 Head score at 2-2, with the Spaniard winning the only meeting on grass and the last two overall. On paper the surface favors Anderson, but not by much.

The bookies are giving Anderson too much credit just because he defeated Wawrinka. Granted, he played well, but the Swiss was not at his best. Using the same logic we can say that Garcia-Lopez easily defeated Dolgopolov, who previously beat Nadal.

Each match is different than the other and Anderson is yet to prove himself – one good match against an opponent who didn`t play his best is not a great indicative. The South African has been in mediocre form lately, far from the level he showed last year and he meets a Garcia-Lopez who arguably played better tennis than him this week. This looks like a coin toss as far as I`m concerned, so the value is all on the Spaniard. My tip is Garcia-Lopez to win. Prediction: Guillermo Garcia-Lopez – Kevin Anderson 6-7 6-4 6-4.

  1. value is clearly on the spaniard’s side.
it’s very interesting what is happening in tennis lately.

players reach top form close to their 30’s.

Mardy Fish, GGL(who won Bucahrest this year and played brilliantly all season), Pablo Cuevas…

  2. Yep. that is an interesting trend, especially in today`s game. Big servers like Karlovic, who I think is 35, as well. Curious to see how Haas will do.

  3. PS: not sure what Mardy fish is doing on your list 🙂
